Does that care? No.
It does the same.
Makes Badspot unable to update his stuffz.
you're not making it read-only
the launcher can still change the data, which means he's still able to update it
Why using this complicated stuff when you can have it easy
it's only complicated if you're a moron (i.e. you)

User Content Alpha does not make files "Read Only." It simply redirects the the place Blockland will check for whatever custom UIs or textures you may have. I have written a simple guide to replacing the brick textures, since this is what User Content Alpha is commonly used for.

Click the images for a full-sized version.

First, lets take a look at where the default brick textures are located. They are stored in Documents/Blockland/base/data/shapes/. This is important to know where they are located, you will need the folder names later on.

Before we do anything else, make sure you have placed Client_UserContent in your Add-Ons folder.

Now, go back to the main Blockland directory. From there, open the folder config.

Once you open the config folder, create a new folder titled content. This is the main folder that User Content Alpha uses.

Now this is where the folders I mentioned before come in place. You're going to want to recreate that set of folders. While still inside the content folder, create a new folder titled data.

Inside the newly created data folder, create another new folder titled shapes.

Finally, open up the shapes folder. This is where you will place your custom brick textures. The same goes for any other texture or UI replacements, it just varies on what folders they are in by default.

Hopefully this has helped create a better understanding on using User Content Alpha and replacing your brick textures without having to use a "Read Only" workaround - which I do not recommend.

So
But you are then using different files
= No update

User Content Alpha is a safer way if you want to change your textures and UIs. Making the files "Read Only" is an awful work-around.

Though, it works

Would you rather try to find infected files on your PC all on your own, and delete them - or have a reliable scanner do it for you?

Yes, but it's not recommended. The developers frown upon that way of getting around it. You're better off using this. There are no issues with it, it works perfectly fine.

When doing stuff it's always your own risk that it no worky
Changing ugly textures isnt stuff
While some other stuff is like replacing scripts with "" and making that read-only

UCA only works for base folder right?

If the game updates and all your files are forgeted to hell, don't cry to us. You can just sink back in your hole and think about how much stupid you did by making the files read-only.

not really

when you think about it, at this point it doesn't much matter which way you do it, it's more personal preference.

in the future it may be a bit different, but at this point in time, that's pretty much how it is.

(making each individual file read-only seems like too much trouble anyways compared to downloading a mod and putting files in a folder and just deleting the files to revert it instead of having to go though the files again and make them not read-only)

I'm not sure what part of "awful work-around" blocki is misunderstanding

Bump. Upload to RTB?

Sorry to bring this back from the dead.

Huge bump, Sorry

But the download link is broken for me, is it for anyone else?

Now I wish Zack could add my mirror to the OP.

Why this add-on makes me rage for no reason

There is obviously something wrong with you than. This is a much better alternative than what you suggested, and even Badspot recommended someone should make an Add-On to do this exact thing - back when v20 was released and it was discovered that custom textures were removed.
