Yeah, Intel has better architecture, and has since the Core 2 Duo days. Even an Intel 4 core is about even with an AMD 8 core.

What's the point?
It would be a gigantic waste of money. You only ever need a dedicated sound card if you are doing audio work. Integrated can support up to 7.1 surround, and some go beyond that. They are all you could ever need.

Well I'm not talking a $500 studio card, just a cheap thing. I guess it really depends on the integrated sound. I'm a serious audiophile though and I can't stand most integrated audio.
But that's just me.

Most sound cards suck ass and barely provide any performance over onboard, if any. Really, this was a problem like 8 years ago but not anymore.
