I've only ever raised two pokemon to level100 without rare candies or daycare centers, and that was my Espeon and my Ninetales in pokemon emerald. Took so damn long

If I found a Rare Candy, I'd use it. Still, I feel sure I've raised several Pokemon legitimately to level 100. And that's because I have never understood TRAINING Pokemon. Switching around the inventory of Pokemon is such a hassle to screw up and have it pass out. The first 2-3 Pokemon I have would be my oldest, trained by just battling every single trainer I find. All but my starter would be required to know some HM when in my party which the others don't. I had such a noob party.

I trained a lvl 100 Sceptile (Cut, Leaf Blade, Dragon Claw, Hyper Beam) and Azumarill (Hydro Pump, Surf, Dive, Waterfall) way back in the day when I was 8 and played Ruby.

I remember when Sceptile was lvl 98 and I had never trained to 100, this cigarette said he had a lvl 200 Swampert

Pokemon Snap was amazingly difficult... But I beat it! I assume I did, I always looked up guides and cheats... I'm sure one of those times I did it cheat-free. It was before I had an Xbox 360 surely, and I didn't even know of online gaming.
