Should I wait for Z (X2 Y2)?
(if they make some thing like that)
You'd probably be waiting until 2014, or at a push, 2015.

I wouldn't consider it worth the wait.
And chances are, if there is another title in the generation (non-remake) then it'll probably be a Sequel, like Platinum was to Diamond/Pearl and B2/W2 was to B/W.

Nah, get Pokemon X and Y this Summer, enjoy the crap out of it, and wait a year or so until the sequel comes out.
It'll probably mean a bit more to you, and you ought to be able to save up enough money for it in the time it takes for it to be released.

I always like to move some of my great Pokemon from the first game to the second game, so that I end up with a team of great memories from both games. (Not moving them over to cheat through the Gyms. Usually do it after the E4 is dealt with)

Also, happy page 250!
This is the page of Ho-Oh!

Bit of a bump.

I finally finished Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity the other day.
I took quite a bit of a break from it.

Did the Worldcore mission, after being prompted to by the in-game characters, but first gathered supplies for a few days.
Which I hardly needed.
The final mission has you go in alone, and I required 1 reviver seed (due to a bad decision, when I assumed Axeey the Axew could survive one more Dragon attack) and probably 1 Oran Berry to heal.

Other than that, the very final mission was a piece of piss.

The ending to it was quite sweet and a really nice finish, and getting back to Post Town, it was nice to hear people say nice things to my character.
Although to be honest, considering the whole ordeal of the story (which I won't spoil), they didn't seem too fussed.
Like they had basically given up at the Credits and end of the main story, and were just watching from the side as the post-main story continued.

That said, I suppose I'd have to sum the game up.
I'm a fan of the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games, although I'm very much a rookie, having only played Gates to Infinity and Explorers of Time, but I thoroughly enjoy the games and think them to be a lot of fun, and quite a novel take on the Pokemon series.

I can't fault Gates to Infinity for any of it's gameplay. The mechanics are very much similar, if not identical to the previous games.
The lack of hunger was weird and made me feel like the game was a bit too easy on me (I liked having to plan food for the journey, and the thrill of nearly starving and having to survive off of random seeds found about), although it apparantely was present in the last few dungeon/levels (if that's the story ones, then I didn't even notice it, since the level was so easy).

What definitely is apparant when you play Gates to Infinity, and especially if you have played previous games, is that it is unbelievably short.
I've no doubt gotten a day or two out of it.
But I've gotten weeks and weeks out of Explorers of Time, and like many here, I've gotten possibly months out of Main-series games.
The storyline for Gates to Infinity was just incredibly short. While I seemed to have breaks between story progression where I was promoted towards going on regular adventures, they didn't seem to be as long as those in previous titles. Which ultimately meant that my story seemed quite sped up and forced on. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but it was over so soon.

The actual story missions had some challenge and length to them, indeed. But nothing that was so great and memorable as those in Explorers of Time.
And it's almost certain that there wasn't anywhere near as many story missions as there had been before.
In Explorers of Time, after completing the main storyline, it seemed like missions were coming on for miles before my game eventually ended and I was left with just going on un-scripted adventures.
I've had a single story-line mission in Gates of Infinity, following the end of the main-story, and I'm pretty sure that was the only mission I will be given following the end.

It's just too short.

And following that, the biggest downfall to the entire game is the complete lack of available Pokemon.
The miniscule amount of starters is a very good sign of this, where older titles would seemingly leave me with a myriad of Pokemon to recieve, assuming I answered my questions properly.
Yet Gates to Infinity most definitely did not.

And it didn't stop there.
Compared to Explorers of Time, where all but 2 of all Pokemon as of Gen IV are available, the Pokemon available in Gates to Infinity doesn't even include the entire Unova Pokedex, the most recent release of Pokemon for the game.

What this boils down to is that no matter where you go in this game, whether it's a volcanic region, or a chilly ice field, or a dark cave or a sunny forest, you will encounter the exact same Pokemon again and again.
Sometimes they don't even make sense in their present location, because there aren't enough Pokemon of certain types to fit the theme (I think there are only 3 ghost Pokemon, being the Litwik line, and I'm not even sure if Steel type Pokemon are in the game...).

And besides that, there are practically no Legendary pokemon in the storyline in this game.
As far as I am aware, there are 4.
Victini, who appears as a PostTown/Paradise resident and acts as a merchant for the new "V-Wave", an interesting feature that gives bonuses to a random type (enemy and players) each in-game day.
Virizion, who appears as a title character on boxart, is one of your main characters and soon joins your Team.
Keldeo, who acts as a minor plot device, and later on a possible team member.
Kyurem, who appears as a boss for the game.

I've expressed that there were almost all Pokemon in previous games, but the importance of that isn't stressed enough when you consider how many Legendaries were key to the plot.
In Explorers of Time, the Legendary Pokemon acted as key boss-characters who were central to the story-missions.
Each big story-mission usually ended in an interesting boss fight against a legendary, for respective purposes.
The interactions of Palkia and Giratina were crucial to the overall story in both Explorers of Time and Darkness, as was the minglings of other minor legendaries, like Celebi.

Yet in Gates to Infinity, there were so few legendaries in the story, (2/3 being good), that all the dungeon-bosses were taken up by regular Pokemon.
Characters like Gurdurr, Munna, Purrugly and others act as sad, boring bosses (who you could encounter as regular Pokemon within Dungeons), while the likes of Reshiram and Zekrom, Thundurus/Tornadus/Landorus, or Lugia/Ho-Oh were excluded from having key roles.

The Pokémon Mystery Dungeon team completely lost it with this game.
They made practically no use of all the previously rendered 3D pokemon that were created for Pokédex 3D and Pokédex 3D Pro.
They had a whole field to practice around with 3D animation and whatnot, prior to the release of Pokemon X and Y.
Yet instead, they went lazy.
They chose very few Pokemon to play with. They threw them at you time and time again, until you got really loving bored, and it seemed like Zweilous and Druddigon were the only Dragon Type Pokémon in existence.
And then they gave you a well-written, if slightly overly soppy story, that was just drastically short, and furiously thrown at you until you had no choice but to continue with the game (Up yours if you think you can stretch the benefits of your purchase out for as long as possible).

It leaves me feeling happy to have played the game, as a fan of the series, both Pokémon and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, yet ultimately I'm left feeling like I really missed out on what could have been a great game, and that really, I wish I had saved my money until the game went on sale, or the price dropped a bit.

Tl;Dr
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon is a fun game, yet it runs out of steam quickly, hurries to finish it's own storyline, and provides very little in terms of change and diversity.
If you're looking for a great 3D Pokémon game to sink your teeth into before Pokémon X and Y, then look elsewhere. This will only leave you feeling disappointed, and nowhere near satisfied.

I thought miltank was a gen 2.
-snip-
It is a gen 2 pokemon.

And I just realized something, in one of the Pokemon X and Y countdown videos, the guy talks about other info about the fairy type that was revealed by someone way before the fairy type was officially confirmed by Nintendo. The fairy type is apparently supereffective against dark types and normally effective against ghost types. This means Sableye and Spiritomb actually have a weakness now! :D Also, fairy is immune to dragon, so dragons are nerfed even further.

Hello, I kinda restarted all of my Pokemon games with friend codes (Pt HG &B2) I was wondering if someone would tell me how to get the friend codes in each of them because I got confused :S

Can't you grab your code from the Pal Pad? You need to access Wi-Fi at least once.

This means Sableye and Spiritomb actually have a weakness now! :D
NOOOOO!!!

I accept your challenge, Dooble.

If you ever feel like replaying Explorers of Time, do yourself a favor and just grab a copy of Explorers of Sky instead. You can probably find a copy for around $10 on eBay, and for the additional content, I can honestly say that it's worth it.

And you should play one of the Rescue Team games! I've three copies of Blue Rescue Team and I'm willing to give you one. PM me if you're interested.

The Rescue Team duo introduced the series with a long but beautiful story and a plethora of content. For spin-off titles, it really felt like heart and soul was poured into the experience.

The Explorers trio refined the experience and really focused on the story. Explorers of Sky went even further, building on them with special episodes and the Shaymin arc. Additionally, it's worth mentioning the score; Arata Iiyoshi and Atsuhiro Ishizuna's compositional prowess brought tracks like "Dialga's Fight to the Finish," "To the Hidden Land," etc.

Gates to Infinity took advantage of the 3DS' power and overhauled the game's appearance. It kind of lost itself and when compared to the other entries in the series almost feels like nothing but a cash-grab.

I can't fault Gates to Infinity for any of it's gameplay. The mechanics are very much similar, if not identical to the previous games.

Agreed. I was really disappointed to find out the belly mechanic would be absent from the majority of the game.

There's one other mechanic that's missing from the game that you didn't touch on though: genders. You may have noticed that you and your partner are male by default in the English version. It may not affect you of I but in the greater scheme of things it was a really dumb move.

The actual story missions had some challenge and length to them, indeed. But nothing that was so great and memorable as those in Explorers of Time.

In Explorers of Time, after completing the main storyline, it seemed like missions were coming on for miles before my game eventually ended and I was left with just going on un-scripted adventures.
Yep. I've over 100 hours logged on my original Blue Rescue Team cartridge, 50+ on Explorers of Sky, and 15 on my Gates to Infinity one. That's saying something.

And some of the best moments in the series were in the epilogues, too. I'm not going to spoil it for you, but when the Ninetails Legend concludes... Yeah, that just happened.

Look even further and you'll notice the tile-sets are reused too. Often times you're exploring the "same" dungeon with a different track playing. The music is overused too. This did happen in the previous entries but not as much as in Gates to Infinity.

The dungeons in the previous entries were also completely randomized. I came across the same floors several times while I was playing Gates to Infinity.

...and I'm not even sure if Steel type Pokemon are in the game...).
I'm not very familiar with the Unova dex but I believe Klink and its evolved forms are steel types. Correct me if I'm wrong.

What's the system used to Pokemon blue rescue team?

That's really nice of you to offer. I don't think sending it from Maine to me would be quite worth it, but I really appreciate the offer.
I will be looking into some of the Rescue Team games. I'd like to play atleast one of the games from each series.
And I'll probably look for Explorers of Sky at some point too. I wasn't entirely sure how much of the game's story was repetetive of Explorers of Time, so I decided against it at first. But Gates of Infinity has put me in the mood for more Mystery Dungeon, and a good game like Explorers of Sky would be quite nice.

I'm not really sure what the use of Genders was in the Mystery Dungeon games (I don't know if you could breed or anything, or if gender-based moves existed).
But I don't really see a reason for removing the variation in starter gender either. Seems to have been a bit of an unusual move by the developers.

I didn't pick up on this while writing my post, but it's definitely true.
You could very easily know your way around most dungeons without any surprise to room shapes.
And none of the room shapes really seemed to change with the dungeons. It was always the same set-rooms in diferent places, with the different themes wherever you went.
Even on the more interesting maps, like those without walls, or those with lava/water.

And another point is the complete lack of type-specific movement.
I found maybe 2 or 3 locations in game where having a Water Pokemon enabled you to walk on water tiles.
And if you did walk on those tiles, you'd find that they were either just a small chunk in the room (only useful for getting a full team to attack an opponent) or that they led to nowhere.

I know for sure that while playing Explorers of Time that there were both water and lava routes that could get you to interesting locations within dungeons, so long as you had a water/fire type to travel them.

And at the same time, I found the Ghost type pokemon to be quite boring. Again there weren't many of them, but even so I found them to be quite normal and boring compared to previous games.
You used to be able to be snuck upon by a ghost type who was hiding in the walls, who you couldn't damage while they did so.
I'm not even sure if that happened in this game.

The only time I even recall a Pokemon attacking me from outside the floor was a flying pokemon on an elevated dungeon, and I could still attack back, so there wasn't any special challenge, like having to lead them into a room where they can be fought.
I'm not very familiar with the Unova dex but I believe Klink and its evolved forms are steel types. Correct me if I'm wrong.
You're right there.
I forgot about the Klink line.
But the fact that I forgot about them is a pretty good example of how little variation there was in the game.

In the Unova Pokedex there are very few Steel types.
Excadrill
Klink, Klang, Klinklang.
Cobalion (who I think you only meet later on in the game, post end-game)
Pawniard, Bisharp (you meet a few of these)
Durant (Not present in-game)
Genesect (Not present in-game)

6 of the possible 9 Steel types are available to meet at any time within a dungeon.
2 don't even appear.
1 of them you need to have your Team at "Royal Rank" to even meet, which requires a lot of work.
And there are no Gen 1-4 Steel Types present in-game.
I know that there are relatively few Steel Types across the whole of Pokemon, but they're incredibly limited in this game, alongside Ghost Types, or which there are 7. (Litwick line, Yamask line, Golurk line).

It really does just seem like they wasted a lot of the options available to them.

That's really nice of you to offer. I don't think sending it from Maine to me would be quite worth it, but I really appreciate the offer.
I will be looking into some of the Rescue Team games. I'd like to play atleast one of the games from each series.
You sure? All I'd have to do is tape the cartridge to a piece of paper, stick it in an envelope and mail it. I could do it tomorrow even and it would literally only cost me pocket change. I have no use for it and it seems like you would enjoy it.

I'd say maybe 10% of Explorers of Sky is original content; for the most part it'll just feel like you're just replaying Explorers of Time. There are a bunch of new starters to "pick" from (I admit to dancing around when I learned I could play as a Riolu), and then there's Spinda's Café and Shaymin Village, but the special episodes are where the game really shines. "Igglybuff the Prodigy," "Here Comes Team Charm!," and "In the Future of Darkness" are really good.

I'm not really sure what the use of Genders was in the Mystery Dungeon games (I don't know if you could breed or anything, or if gender-based moves existed).
But I don't really see a reason for removing the variation in starter gender either. Seems to have been a bit of an unusual move by the developers.
While you could pick your gender in the Rescue Team games, all it did was change the color of the text boxes. It may have replaced "he" with "she" and vice versa but that's it. In the Explorers games each and every Pokémon you encountered was assigned a gender, but I don't think it changed much. Breeding is yet to be incorporated, and honestly lol how would that work? ;p

I would like to see it included somehow, though.

And none of the room shapes really seemed to change with the dungeons. It was always the same set-rooms in diferent places, with the different themes wherever you went.

Even on the more interesting maps, like those without walls, or those with lava/water.
I know right? There had to be what, 20 unique rooms being used over and over again.

And though I liked the idea of having certain floors be puzzles, like when you break the tree down to cross the gorge at the beginning of the game or hop up the logs when chasing after Scraggy, it was just too common. You solve a puzzle, re-enter the dungeon and get back into exploring, only for you to be ripped away to solve a puzzle 3 floors further in. The cutscenes made me feel the same way.

The Crags of Lament were beautiful and I could hardly appreciate them.

I know for sure that while playing Explorers of Time that there were both water and lava routes that could get you to interesting locations within dungeons, so long as you had a water/fire type to travel them.
I didn't even think about that! I played as an Oshawott, and I don't even remember taking advantage of the environment once. I know for a fact though in previous entries there were always special "islands" of treasure that could only be reached by a certain type. I don't recall seeing anything like that at all.

And at the same time, I found the Ghost type pokemon to be quite boring. Again there weren't many of them, but even so I found them to be quite normal and boring compared to previous games.
You want ghosts? Once you play Red or Blue Rescue Team you'll discover the horror that is the Pokémon Shedinja. Unless you or your partner is a fire-type starter or a Cubone, you better be stocking up on gravelrocks. <3

oh, and the new logo is horrible
