Like just to be clear here we're talking about a Pokemon that shows less results than Ninjask and Electivire. That chart shows the top 100 most used Pokemon in competitive (on Pokemon Showdown at least), ordered and colored by how well the teams they are on end up doing. Charizard shouldn't even be in the top 100 most used (he's #76), but somewhere out there, there have been people using him enough to make him used more than actually good Pokemon like Stoutland, Gothitelle, and Kyurem. And now he's getting an amazing mega evolution.
The Charizard Illuminati is definitely real.
Charizard is a fan favourite. There's not really much more beyond that.
There are probably lots and lots of better and more interesting Pokemon to give MegaEvolutions too for competitive play, but they aren't as popular with casual and young players.
And there will be those who play just casually but make use of MegaEvos. And if you give the Gen 1 starters some MegaEvos then they're going to get use out of the new system. I don't think more casual players will go looking for the better competitive Pokemon to use if they are the less well-known, less common Pokemon.
A cloud system sounds really cool.
I will have to look into whether I want to use that or not.
And I like the new Gen1 Starter MegaEvos.
Not 100% keen on their designs. I know they'll cause some arguments.
I like MegaBlastoise, but something about his ears makes his eyes look funny. Or atleast that's the case in the above drawing.
MegaCharizard is also cool, but reminds me of Garchomp slightly.
MegaVenusaur is very tame in it's design. It very much seems just like Venusaur, but it's got an extra layer of leaves and branches, some vines, some leaves face a different way and it has a flower on its head. It could very much just be a redesign of a regular Venusaur.
