Author Topic: Minicraft - notch's Ludum Dare 22 entry  (Read 2812 times)

For those of you who don't know, Ludum Dare is a 48-hour game making competition. Notch, creator of minecraft, is a regular participant for the (I believe) annual event. The link below is his finished game made in 48 hours, and immediately you should notice some major similarities to Minecraft, which is no surprise given the name. I believe Minecraft players are given a considerable advantage in this game, as we already know the basic layout and idea of the game. We know what to do for the most part.

HOWEVER the game is very different from the original, and it's very...scaled down, given the short time it was created in. So give it a play! I've found it very addicting.

All I see is a black screen.

It loads as a Java Applet. You might need to mess with your settings.

Pretty cool, and much better than expected.

How do I make torches?

You have to make Lanterns. I believe you need coal, slime, and glass. Then you can craft it, and place it. Pretty great for caves.

I wish Notch would stop making games.

If this exact same game was made by any other entrant, everyone would think it sucks. People worship every stupid thing Notch does.

I don't think this will win.
I played for 15 minutes, then got bored, but I still adore Minecraft.
I'm pretty sure that's how most sane Minecrafters think.

I like this more than Minecraft but how the hell do I get iron?

I don't like it. It's boring, nothing feels new, the sound effects seem sub-par. It feels like he could have done more with the 48 hours.

I dunno if more could have been done, but it's not fun at all. Regardless of time constraints, games should be fun.

This is so freaking boooring.

Mined Xmillion rocks and no iron.
Wtf?
