Author Topic: Star Trek Online: Now F2P!  (Read 19020 times)

Ship to ship combat, Hand to hand combat, Fully customizable ships, crews, and character creation. I'm anxious to buy this and play it. Discuss n junk.

For those who didn't know (and who would rightly deprive themselves of knowing?) Star Trek Online will go Free to Play for general users on the 17th of this month.

The awesome thing is that if you had a previous subscription for one month at any time, you have that Free to Play access now!

So the real question is, Who plans on showing up on the 17th?

EDIT: Here's a basic list of in game names to look up once you've joined. I'll also be posting this on the yahoo forums group as well. If I copied these wrong or they have changed, let me know.

I was kind of interested in trying this game out

I might think about playing

I'll probably play, I couldn't run it however long ago when I got an invitation.

Being a Star Trek nerd I'm definitely going to check it out.

Although I fear it might become somewhat Pay2Win-ey

Whats star trek even about? Also is this game a space ship flying MMO or a walk around and shoot lasers mmo?

Both, although I heard the ground combat is absolutely horrid.

They've done some serious revamping to the game, especially to the ground combat system. I haven't had much time to try it all out yet but it looks a hell of a lot better from last time I played.

The TOS/TNG intro sums it up pretty well:
Quote
Space, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.

The new ground combat is a bit like Mass Effect to an extent. It's far from perfect but it's definitely much better than the release/beta ground combat.

I'll be sure to post screen shots of things I find along the way as well as previous screen shots I have taken from long ago.

>STO dev says it's F2P
>No skills beyond level 5, max level cap 20, no bartering, ads, no captain privileges for F2P players

That at least is my prediction.

Wasn't quite wrong, but

Save for missing a few ship slots, I got to keep everything I had when my account lapsed. I was pleased.

I currently have been playing this for a bout 3 months. lvl 48
About 120 hours.

I'm referring to those who didn't have lapsed accounts.
There will also no doubt be serious prejudice against F2P players, just like in TF2. Everyone seems to think you need to pay to have any skill at whatever game you're playing.
