Not if you're being chased by a Bee Boss that can create clones of you and you run into town to escape (I ran so far and they still followed, that needs to be changed IMO)...everyone died.

Un-equip them from your inventory. On the bottom right you have a slot named "pet"

Then you can put the pet box thing in your inventory.

If you're using the crossbow as a ranger, you can spam rightclick and it does more damage than charging it because you can fire it as fast as you can click.
