I was hoping it would be easy to run a game comprised entirely of voxels

I was wrong and disappointed
It's in alpha, and all the models are fully filled to the top with voxels, and so far there's no way to not render voxels unless you actually see them or whatever you smart people call it

^^^^^^^
I know it's in alpha, but dear loving god. I can rarely get above 40-50 fps while playing normally at 10% render distance. Ten loving percent.

Occlusion?

If you don't play on a IBM computer, it runs pretty good.

"IBM computer" is a really bad synonym for "old/bad computer" if that's what you were going for

culling

there's definitely occlusion culling going on. this means that voxel faces that are touching other faces aren't rendered. if that weren't happening, it'd be probably unplayable. i doubt there's many other kinds though.

My computer couldn't run the "mini demo". I know my computer is a piece of stuff, but it simply wouldn't run it.
It said:
"Could not initialize Direct3D. Please make sure the latest DirectX End-User Runtime is installed:
http ://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35"

So I tried to get the latest DirectX updates, and it told me the latest was already installed, and that no installation was necessary.
So um
Can I get a little advice here? Is it simply that Cube World won't run on my computer?

Try installing directX 9, that's what the forum said

No, but there are several YouTube tutorials that sum it up quite well.  Just Google "Cube World Getting Started" or something along those lines.  If we could get into a server, I could help you with most of your problems.

I imagine the best way to get started would be to walk up to something and kill it.

get a yellow name lamp first. just trust me on this.
