You decide it would be best to keep going with Stojanow, so you and him set out for a bit of adventuring. You wonder that Axiometra and Lia will do to the place while you're away.

You decide to explore the desert a bit more, carefully mapping everything so that you don't get lost. After a while, you come to what looks like a barren wasteland. It's not too big (width-wise), but it appears to go around the entire area. After the wasteland is and incredibly long drop to who knows where.

It's an hour or two before evening. What now?

>drop a pebble off the cliff just to see how deep it is
>mark the drop for later. you have an IMS too, right?
>return to base

You're about to drop a pebble off the cliff to see how deep it is, but you hear something heavy land behind you, followed by a gun loading.

You had forgotten that in this treeless expanse, you were completely exposed to whatever might hunt you. In this case, it was the mech.

"Fancy meeting you here," it says in an eerily happy mechanical voice. "Mind if I settle some business with you?"

YOUR OPTIONS ARE:
>CALL FOR HELP
>FIGHT
>NEGOTIATE
>RUN
>JUMP OFF CLIFF
WHAT DO

You grab Stojanow's arm and leap off the cliff. He gives a surprised yell as you drag him with you. You manage to catch a glimpse of the mech at the edge of the cliff before you disappear into the fog.

SURVIVAL ROLL: 4

Keeping a firm grip on Stojanow's arm, you manage to dig your available katana into the side of the cliff. You hear a painful pop from your arm, but you hang on.

It won't hold for long, but at least the mech can't see you. You also can't send out a very strong signal to Axio and Lia, but you might be able to send an SOS. What now?

>send SOS anyway

>>MEANWHILE, AT THE BASEMENT

You send out an SOS, hoping it manages to reach the others back at the basement.

>YOU ARE NOW BCS-A

You're about to finish putting away some of the papers lying around when something comes up in your vision.

>EMERGENCY SIGNAL FROM:
>>MCS-N
>LOCATION:
>>FAR WEST REGION; WASTELANDS
>REQUESTING IMMEDIATE ASSISTANCE.

Well, isn't that lovely. Lia's already out the door, and you follow her quickly. It takes a few minutes to get to the cliff, and by then you're out of breath from all the running. There isn't anything dangerous in sight, and you don't see Navaro or Stojanow anywhere.

"Navaro!" Lia yells, and a few moments later you hear, "Down here!"

You walk over to the edge of the cliff, careful not to fall off. Sure enough, there's Navaro and Stojanow, in the cliff by only a katana.

"How'd you manage that?" you ask while trying to figure out a way to get them to safety.

"That mech came after us, and I jumped," Navaro replies.

"And he dragged me with him," Stojanow adds, clearly not enjoying Navaro's method of rock climbing.

So, how will we get them up?

A katana blade would've snapped from that force :/
But technicalities aside, how far Reynolds and Stojanow are from you.

hi updates

You're about to lean over the edge to pull up Navaro, but Lia reaches down and pulls him up by his scarf. After a little bit of choking, she's managed to pull them both up.

"Hey, be more careful..." Navaro mutters, rubbing his shoulder. He must've hurt it somehow.

"What happened to your shoulder?" you ask, even though you're sure it'll automatically repair itself.

"I'm not sure, I must've done something to it when I wedged my katana in the wall," he replies, looking up. "I'm sure I'll be fine in a little bit," he adds after a few moments of silence.

"Well, we should head back," Stojanow suggests, dusting himself off and leading the way. "It's almost dark, and we don't want to find that mecha again today."

"You can say that again," Navaro says, rolling his eyes and getting up. He turns down your offer of help, and the four of you make it back to the basement without incident.

What now?

Go make somebody else take guard.
