Modern tech would ruin the game, IMO. Thats why there aren't many good horror games anymore, too many things abuse specularity and all, and sharper edges just tend to look creepier.

Make your remake periodically take snapshots at critical moments, and if The Gray Man gets you, they will flash randomly while looking at him, speeding up the closer he is, until they're loving over your screen when he touches you...

... You need a Redux Mode or something, where it doesn't follow exactly as the original but for the sake of extra oddness. That way, you can play old fashion or with new life. :o

I have to ask, what exactily does Redux mean?

Well, you're already making it redux actually... Just saying, there would be a normal mode where your game plays exactly like the old one, and then another mode adding really scary elements. Old mode should be the default, though.
