They are calling the rain god, Xlidaquian and asking him for showers so their crops would be fruitful. Most researchers have came to the conclusion that the rain god was actully aliens. This ritual would signal the aliens' UFO, which was powered by super fusion fuel cell technology that created a by-product of water. When the aliens would come to the tribe they would vent this water, creating an artifical rain. The Native Americans would then pay the aliens back by offering virgins to the aliens, creating a mutual agreement that lasted many years, until the aliens were driven in The Great Buffalo uprising of 487 A.D., but that's a different story.
