Author Topic: Forum Request: Quoting Expansion - Locked or Old  (Read 617 times)

Ever had those times where you wanted to get a quote from someone about something to post it somewhere, but you always get that "Topic is too old" or "Topic is locked" notification?

I am requesting that instead of not allowing you the quote, the forums should place the quote on your clipboard automatically and give you a notification that it has been placed on your clipboard so all you need to do is find the topic you want to post the quote in, click REPLY and paste it there.

Feedback?

Oh god that would be so useful.
I'm not sure if this is possible, but it probably is, so I want.

That is completely different.

This is about being able to copy the quote code out of topics that cannot be posted in
I have no idea why you think it is about quoteception where quotes are by default added when quoting a post with a quote.

I wasn't trying to argue, I'm just saying that it was just a bizzare connection to make

and offtopic but idk annoys me greatly.  It goes with the whole language shift from saying definitive things to now having "like" and "um" in every other word as if to remove full responsibility to what people say and convey uncertainty more than the message itself, idk c wut i did thar

Here's my complicated ten step process for when I absolutely need something quoted.

I'm using Chrome, you may have to accommodate for differences in browsers.
1. Find post you want to quote in tab B.
2. Right click quote on any other post on the topic you want to post in in tab A.
3. Choose copy link address.
4. Open tab C, paste link but do not proceed.
5. Return to tab A, and click the title of the message you want to post, just above the date.
6. Look at msg in the subject bar. The number after that is the post you want to quote. Copy it.
7. In tab C, change the number after quote= in the address bar to the one of the post you are quoting.
8. You now have the message and date, but to make the link work, you need the topic ID in the quote too. This was not done earlier because in the URL, it also controls what thread you are posting in.
9. Go back to tab B and grab the topic ID from the address bar, after topic=. Paste it in the quote code after topic=.
10. You now should have a functional quote, with proper date and link. Preview it and test it, though.

Locked, as usual.
