Author Topic: What do you guys know about scar tissue, needle sterilization and shrapnel?  (Read 3148 times)

So about 12 years ago I had a large piece of a mirror shard get stuck in my thigh and it was too deep for the doctors to get out. Obviously it can't fully heal so I check it every now and then to see if it's not infected.

Now here's a mistake I just made. I took a safety pin and wiped it with rubbing alcohol a few times and stuck it in the scar an inch deep to check if the scar has no pus, am I going to get infected now? This wouldn't be the first time I sterilized something wrong but I never got infected from it neither.

Strangest thing that happened when I stuck the needle in the scar.

I felt almost nothing, there was no pain. If I tried to prick other areas of my skin it would hurt.

No blood

The further the needle went in it felt like I was piercing another layer? It was like piercing an onion that had a few layers hollow in between.

Alright listen. Go to the doctor.

Also post a pic it sounds interesting.

EDIT: Gasoline cleans well. Just be careful when using a lighter after applying.

I already seen a doctor, they said it's too deep to get out without surgery. Which is not even needed because it doesn't pose as a threat yet.

There isn't much to see. Just a scar indentation.

Sounds like the tissue under the scar may not have healed properly and is too thin.

I would go to the hospital.

Also, that was 12 years ago. With the new technology we have now, they'd probably be able to remove the mirror shard. So go to the emergency room.

Oh, and the infection thing. As long as the needle isn't rusted, or hasn't been in contact with any other biological materials other than your scar tissue and it was properly sterilized, you should be fine.

This

Also take it from me when it comes to medical I know what i'm doing. I do medical stuff all the time.
Broken toe? Walk it off.. Painfully
Broken finger? Wait for it to heal
Cut? Gasoline + Lighter it'll seal up nicely
Erection? Get some pusillanimous individual

My dad went to the ER because he broke his thumb. Wasn't that big of a deal, but the ER can be for.

It might be soon because I'm pretty sure I sterilized that safety pin wrong.

I never got infected from a dirty object though, yet.

scar tissue that I wish you saw
sarcastic mr. know-it-all~

You're not funny.

I think I used it to help with my ingrown toe nail once. I used some safety pin to get leverage on a broken nail piece under my skin and then I think I put the safety pin on my jacket.

The pin I used was the one found on the jacket.

Or do you mean biological materials from something other than apart of my body?

Sounds like the tissue under the scar may not have healed properly and is too thin.

That seemed pretty obvious because it can't heal around a sharp mirror shard. If I move around too much I feel it scraping against my insides.

I once had to remove something from my skin. It was a small stone of some sort.

The amount of puss and blood that came out when I squeezed it was incredible.

Lord Tony, are you able to run with your scar?

Yup, too much exercise forces me to stop though.
