Author Topic: "Remove "In God we trust" from legal tender" Petition on Whitehouse.gov  (Read 27385 times)

I think it should be removed.

Psh, you're still talking about the petition?  We moved passed that pages ago.

In China We Trust
IOU China

No, you cannot. BUDDHA WAS LITERALLY THE NAME OF A PERSON. THERE IS NO "A". THE MAN NAMED BUDDHA. Not "a Buddha".
"The goal in Buddhism is to achieve enlightenment. Those who achieve enlightenment become Buddhas"
His name wasn't Buddha lol. Buddha is a title, his name was Siddhartha Gautama

Don't try and talk about something you don't know
Yes, I knew his name was Siddhartha

He was the man whos father wouldn't let him see any kind of suffering

Ok, I probably shouldn't be representing buddhism. That was a bit hypocritical. :P

what silly law did that

Quote
"In God We Trust" was adopted as the official motto of the United States in 1956 as an alternative or replacement to the original motto of E Pluribus Unum, adopted when the Great Seal of the United States was created and adopted in 1782.
In God We Trust has appeared sporadically on U.S. coins since 1864 and on paper currency since 1957.
It is also the motto of the U.S. state of Florida. Its Spanish equivalent, En Dios Confiamos, is the motto of the Republic of Nicaragua.

These political topics always swarm out of control from people like myself who try to display their opinion hoping that everyone will kneel down and praise their logic.

It's mildly pointless, especially after page 4.

what it says on the money is in no way a violation of the first amendment.
Allow me to educate you handicaps about the actual text of the religion section of the first amendment

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."

How is the money saying "in god we trust" violating that?
It's not forcing you to believe in god and it is not prohibiting you from worshiping/not worshiping anything else.

Angsty friendy kids get raged about stupid loving stuff.
I don't believe in god, but I see absolutely no reason to change any of this.

oh so it wasn't really a law as much as a decision

in retrospect that probably shouldn't have been done since it's ALMOST breaking the first amendment now that i think of it though

They DID make a law. That is unconstitutional.
It represents the American people very poorly.

Is it me or are the only ones with the real problems with this people without faith?

op is such a loving idiot atheist I can't stand it.

I hate calling myself an atheist because of people like him.
"Durr religion r stoopid, you are a moron if you believe in god!!!!11!"
Some people need religion to make them happy, or to feel safe, or to answer the questions that can drive you insane from thinking of.

I don't really feel that coming off of OP. It's a legitimate reason, and removing something favoring a religion isn't going to make anyone shoot themself. Most likely people will see putting religions at equal power politically as "the war against Christianity" again.
