Author Topic: Shooter games are just not engaging  (Read 2997 times)

The Hitman series makes you have to think a lot. I would recommend it.

I mean, Bioshock is so goddamn interesting but the gameplay is so goddamn boring, run around for 20 minuets searching every room for stuff, then go and fight five crazy stuffs, maybe run into a big daddy, run around in circles shooting him with electric buck, get little sister. I basically summed up the whole game right there, its the same thing over and over with a very intriguing storyline.
Everything sounds boring when you oversimplify it to hell.

Ok but its still not at all engaging and requires no skill other then knowing how to take cover.

Try playing a game competitively  ex: CS or CoD. It's a whole different way of playing with strategies and teamwork versus just running around in a public match

Play battlefield 3 with 3 friends so you have a 4 man squad.
Communcate.
Coördinate.
Divide tasks.
And laugh your ass off as you carnage heaps of 'grenade lobbing run and gun' handicaps.

half life 3 might save us ; ;
i hope with half life 3, they make a effort to have half the game as multiplayer. rather then all campaign.

no hl2 deathmatch wasnt good enough. it was simply a tool for modding and private servers. not real valve gameplay.

Its going to rape my GPU's, I really need to upgrade them.
hopefully it will be optimized more than arma 2.

i loved arma2 but the damn game barely ran on my comp lol.
when it really should have been fine.

its not optimized very well

I found the same problem with typical shooters.

I agree, they need more strategy.

So I play mw3 semi-competitively with my friends.

It is simple and watered down but I still get a challenge with it, especially if you go against people who also know what they are doing.

We had our four man (In BF3) go up against the top #3 team in the world and we rolled em because we used actual strategy instead of cheap tactics.

As far as bioshock and other things, everyone plays a game differently, but I always made it challenging by upping the difficulty.

So what if I had to look through every room? It was because I was desperately scrounging for resources. If there is not enough action for you, or it doesn't have enough strategy; Maybe you aren't trying to look for either of them.

Idk just my 2 cents.

Sure, if you play some 4v4 multiplayer game in CoD or something similar its fun, but the campaigns are stuff and large scale battles in multiplayer suck.

Upping the difficulty in 90% of shooters just consists of you having less health, causing you to hide more and shoot 1 shot every five minuets. It's not hard its just stupid.

And how does scrounging for resources that you can just buy (people drop so much money) make it any more engaging, all you are doing is looking at dead bodies. The only fun part is finding all the recordings with more parts of the storyline.

Every shooter has enough action, its just the fact that its boring as forget and requires no skill at all.

I just got the game Syndicate, and it coordinates teamwork pretty well.

Those games difficulties scale like ass, they go from stupid AI to Stupid AI that does x4 the damage and spams grenades at you. These days any game that try to make you think they add in the dumbest classes into the game making it a breeze like Desu Ex, the stealth Mechanic just ruined the point of attempting to hide.

Do you mean Human Revolution? I don't think people count that as a Deus Ex game. And multiplayer on the first (the only good) one was actually really fun if you could find the right servers.

Have you played S.T.A.L.K.E.R.? It's true you can get rich quick but the chances of you finding a merchant are pretty slim usually unless you run into a Bandit salesguy or something, and the challenge is not in how much health you have but how fast you can fire your shotgun before you get pounced by a crazy mutant in a gas mask.

Bf3 multiplayer. I play till I rage.

Have you played the new Deus Ex? It's pretty damn good,
