I do my best to involve people- it should the the role of an admin to try and be sure people are enjoying themselves. It's why I like to have Peter as a nice and approachable guy. While he was in a hurry when Rave came up to him, I didn't completely shut the guy out and run off. Even my Mutalid is friendly, should you approach and treat it correctly. Just another creature trying to survive in the Bluzone- not necessarily a monster. By saying that I'm borderlining meta-gaming there, though...
Not much planning goes into Bluzone events- a lot of it is spur of the moment or results of earlier happenings. That is, personally, how I like it. While I have a level of control over everything, (and I need to because I'm the host) almost always I just let things roll. It keeps things fresh and un-predictable, there's no pre-destination for anything or anyone.
Thing is; if you want to get involved, go ahead. The thing about getting involved is people only notice the big things; when everyone is gathered around something. That's not how to get into a storyline or make close roleplay friends. You need to catch the survivors outside of these events- talk to them, communicate. I cannot begin to stress how important it is to share stories with eachother. You learn more about everyone, and sometimes even yourself. It can be a great way to build your character!
And that's where the admins differ from a lot of other players.
The administrator team aren't really 'main characters' but just more developed ones. Their characters don't just have backstory, they have history in the Bluzone. Take Abram Terger, for example. These players spent the time to sit down and exchange stories, they decided to take their character building beyond setting a name. Kaphonaits, Ceist and RingsOfSaturn weren't admins when the Bluzone started- they all earned it.
Being strictly honest, I don't like the whole main story thing. The Bluzone doesn't follow one story- because there are usually a lot happening at once. With the new areas, I might even increase the player count. You'll be able to select your spawn point so the Survivor Base isn't so congested- you'll have new safezones to camp in, new areas to explore, new enemies to face and potentially more atmosphere.
I can't force players to roleplay, and I can't make them do something a certain way- only thing I can do is support the ones who do it well.
