Author Topic: Zombies in the Bluzone** [[CLOSING]]  (Read 584905 times)

Ah. misunderstood.

Well my point about people not wanting to host public ones still stands. I know i'm not going to join the public ones if there's some kind of private server where all the non mongoloids will be.

The private session is seeming more like a good idea if it's going to just be major things.

also hey kniaz i did a thing:
http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=205444.msg5686606#msg5686606

To add onto my previous post - the first Bluzone a couple years back worked perfectly fine with a password. You still got a good amount of people who read the topic and joined the server - and keep in mind, there were less people back then. I think 12k IDs were still new. There were still people who would break the rules, but it wasn't as bad as it is now.

Public won't be a litter box compared to the "clean sandbox" you make private session out to be. I'm sure a few other people that frequent the private will still join the public when they just want to kick back and relax; not deal with the intense story the private session will have.

I'll still be hosting public servers, and I will be promoting/violently enforcing that my other admins still do so.

I know I will.

I have an idea for an alternative: stop complaining that you're not up to date on events or whatever.
I mean seriously. We try to find a way to make people happy but you still don't like it.

Complaints about not being up to date isn't the only reason me and Knaz talked about this. There are a lot more benefits to this.

This way, we can still get players hooked in the public server while the more long-term and dedicated players get sessions of their own where they won't need to put up with all the OOC and regular issues.

It's also easier on the admins who want to host, but don't want to deal with heavy moderation.

It's actually sounding pretty neat the more I hear about it.

I can make a system that creates a short (5-6 characters, enough to remember for a short time), alphanumeric password that can be posted in the thread for the private ones.

um
automatically

i can also make servercmds like /shutdown except more like /private and /public which will CONVENIENTLY CHANGE THE SERVER NAME ACCORDINGLY assuming rtb starts frigging working

Yes! Please do that!

That'd be amazing, Lugnut (:

It's actually sounding pretty neat the more I hear about it.

Here is a big chatlog of the premise of the idea. If Knaz doesn't want this information out, I'll gladly remove it buddy.

Obviously there have been some changes to it though, and we're still going to discuss it heavily with all the other admins.

[8/9/2012 1:01:51 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: I don't remember this much drama and stuff back in the first Bluzone.
[8/9/2012 1:02:02 AM] Lukas William Kniaz Byrne: First Bluzone was never this big
[8/9/2012 1:02:27 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: There was still a reasonable amount of people though.
[8/9/2012 1:02:36 AM] Lukas William Kniaz Byrne: Yeah...
[8/9/2012 1:03:34 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: I'm going to be honest
[8/9/2012 1:03:40 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: I liked it back then.
[8/9/2012 1:03:50 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: Much better. Like the people and everything.
[8/9/2012 1:03:56 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: OH THE OLD DAYS
[8/9/2012 1:04:02 AM] Lukas William Kniaz Byrne: It's gonna be hard to meet those standards again, though
[8/9/2012 1:04:13 AM] Lukas William Kniaz Byrne: I'll agree I enjoyed it much more when it was simpler and more consistent
[8/9/2012 1:05:21 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: Yeah. There's a lot more to keep up with now, especially with multiple hosts and everything. But in a way I guess it's improving.
[8/9/2012 1:05:53 AM] Lukas William Kniaz Byrne: The thing about having more hosts means there's less consistency because we can't all keep 100% communication
[8/9/2012 1:06:18 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: Yeah.
[8/9/2012 1:07:27 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: I still support my idea on the while password in the OP so the regulars and people who read the topic and know what to do can get in.
[8/9/2012 1:07:48 AM] Lukas William Kniaz Byrne: I was considering this also, but only during certain sessions
[8/9/2012 1:08:11 AM] Lukas William Kniaz Byrne: So it's still accessable to the public and people can still get hooked to it and stuff
[8/9/2012 1:08:25 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: Then there is the consistency problem again.
[8/9/2012 1:08:30 AM] Lukas William Kniaz Byrne: yes...
[8/9/2012 1:09:02 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: We got the regulars at one session with a good story going - then you have the public session where some people might have no idea what is going on anymore.
[8/9/2012 1:09:44 AM] Lukas William Kniaz Byrne: I think the public sessions could be more for casual roleplay, where no huge events happen or anything
[8/9/2012 1:10:25 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: Now that I think about it - the regulars would probably tend to stay away from the public sessions.
[8/9/2012 1:10:35 AM] Lukas William Kniaz Byrne: maybe so...
[8/9/2012 1:10:44 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: As they would probably prefer being with the other regulars.
[8/9/2012 1:10:49 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: The other problem is.
[8/9/2012 1:10:59 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: Different sessions, different timezones, different hosts.
[8/9/2012 1:11:06 AM] Lukas William Kniaz Byrne: Ah, yes...
[8/9/2012 1:11:13 AM] Lukas William Kniaz Byrne: If you want to host private sessions, you're more than welcome
[8/9/2012 1:11:19 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: Bah
[8/9/2012 1:11:43 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: I was just about to say - there needs to be more thought put into this before you make private sessions official.
[8/9/2012 1:11:51 AM] Lukas William Kniaz Byrne: Yes...
[8/9/2012 1:12:25 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: We could probably put this idea in the admin board up for discussion and ideas.
[8/9/2012 1:12:36 AM] Lukas William Kniaz Byrne: And probably a community vote, so we know what everyone else thinks
[8/9/2012 1:12:57 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: Yeah - that should be done before making a topic discussing how this will work out.
[8/9/2012 1:13:17 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: No sense in discussing ideas and working out the tinks and stuff, then finding out the community doesn't really like the idea.
[8/9/2012 1:13:30 AM] Lukas William Kniaz Byrne: Yeah, exactly
[8/9/2012 1:13:45 AM] Lukas William Kniaz Byrne: Unlike a lot of other hosters, I actually care about our community haha
[8/9/2012 1:13:54 AM] Lukas William Kniaz Byrne: How about...
[8/9/2012 1:14:00 AM] Lukas William Kniaz Byrne: Regular admins can host private sessions?
[8/9/2012 1:14:04 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: Well of course. This is an in-depth role-play. The community is a big part in it.
[8/9/2012 1:14:17 AM] Lukas William Kniaz Byrne: Super admins can host both private and public, where admins can only host private
[8/9/2012 1:15:13 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: That makes sense - considering there is more to do as a Super Admin so they can deal with the public better.
[8/9/2012 1:15:20 AM] Lukas William Kniaz Byrne: yeah
[8/9/2012 1:15:25 AM] Lukas William Kniaz Byrne: where pirvate sessions might have new comers,
[8/9/2012 1:15:29 AM] Lukas William Kniaz Byrne: But the majority will be regulars
[8/9/2012 1:15:39 AM] Lukas William Kniaz Byrne: People who have read the thread and know the rules
[8/9/2012 1:15:49 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: Exactly.
[8/9/2012 1:16:11 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: But I'm still unsure about the admins hosting private - super admins hosting both.
[8/9/2012 1:16:49 AM] Lukas William Kniaz Byrne: Super admins can choose whether or not they want to host publicly or privately
[8/9/2012 1:17:26 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: What if they decide they don't want to deal with the public anymore?
[8/9/2012 1:18:26 AM] Lukas William Kniaz Byrne: Then they can host privately
[8/9/2012 1:19:12 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: What happens when no one hosts publicly anymore? I'm not saying that would happen - I could do that whenever I'm able to host. I just wouldn't role-play. Just moderate and watch over.
[8/9/2012 1:19:17 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: I'm going to go get a Coke.
[8/9/2012 1:19:44 AM] Lukas William Kniaz Byrne: Chances are, I'll always host publicly.
[8/9/2012 1:20:10 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: There's no Coke.
[8/9/2012 1:20:12 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: Yeah
[8/9/2012 1:20:13 AM] Lukas William Kniaz Byrne: D:
[8/9/2012 1:20:26 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: Hm
[8/9/2012 1:20:56 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: Alright whatever for now we have the idea that Super Admins can host both, normal admins can host private - wait
[8/9/2012 1:20:59 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: That's the thing though
[8/9/2012 1:21:25 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: Admins don't usually host, they wait until they get the hang of things then get promoted to Super Admin - then they can host.
[8/9/2012 1:21:53 AM] Lukas William Kniaz Byrne: Very true
[8/9/2012 1:22:08 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: Why should an admin host privately - for the people who want a good experience with no issues?
[8/9/2012 1:22:43 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: Sure there may be a significant decrease in issues because it's private, but they still don't have the qualities that super admins have after getting used to everything.
[8/9/2012 1:22:54 AM] Lukas William Kniaz Byrne: True...
[8/9/2012 1:23:19 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: What I'm saying is like
[8/9/2012 1:23:25 AM] Lukas William Kniaz Byrne: Perhaps certain admins have permission to host privately?
[8/9/2012 1:23:55 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: Let me get this metaphor straight
[8/9/2012 1:24:01 AM] Lukas William Kniaz Byrne: mhm
[8/9/2012 1:25:06 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: Having a basic busboy/waiter (admins) serve at a fancy dinner party (private session) as to where a butler or whatever (super admins) serve at pubs (public session) and fancy dinner parties.
[8/9/2012 1:25:26 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: Is what I'm kind of trying to say.
[8/9/2012 1:26:43 AM] Lukas William Kniaz Byrne: I kind of get it...
[8/9/2012 1:26:51 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: Dammit I shouldn't have erased what I just typed.
[8/9/2012 1:27:04 AM] Lukas William Kniaz Byrne: But with private sessions, I'd expect less drama- less needing to babysit those people who are still learning
[8/9/2012 1:27:23 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: Admins don't have the supervision and stuff to host public sessions - and admins don't have enough expereince to host private sessions - but I see where you're coming from.
[8/9/2012 1:27:23 AM] Lukas William Kniaz Byrne: Whereas private sessions would involve people who have read the thread and know about the server's storyline and all that
[8/9/2012 1:27:28 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: Yeah.
[8/9/2012 1:27:43 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: Okay whatever.
[8/9/2012 1:27:44 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: For no
[8/9/2012 1:27:45 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: now
[8/9/2012 1:28:12 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: We have the idea of what postion hosts what sessions. Before we get any further with this you should edit the OP and make a new post, and new poll.
[8/9/2012 1:28:30 AM] Lukas William Kniaz Byrne: Yeah, trying to figure out how I'd propose this to the community....
[8/9/2012 1:28:35 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: Hm
[8/9/2012 1:28:41 AM] Lukas William Kniaz Byrne: I just can't seem to be able to word this right
[8/9/2012 1:28:47 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: Give me a minute
[8/9/2012 1:28:55 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: Then you can Austrailianize it ;D
[8/9/2012 1:29:06 AM] Lukas William Kniaz Byrne: haha
[8/9/2012 1:44:24 AM] Tyler "Audax" R.: I don't know, here's what I whipped up.

speaking of cool things that hatmod you said you'd look into ages ago...

one problem - we can only fit 32 characters in the server name, counting my/kniaz's name and the 's and the space after it... 23 characters with mine, 24 with kniaz's

Lugnut's Zombies in the Bluzone* is all we can fit in the server name
note the missing *

when kniaz get's his key working... we can fit one more character.
Kniaz's Zombies in the Bluzone**

what do about name
[private] and [public] is way too long
perhaps
  • [S] for serious
  • [R] for relaxed
  • [0]
[L] for locked

need to shave 2 characters off the server name - what do
« Last Edit: August 20, 2012, 12:55:43 AM by Lugnut »

[Name]'s ZitB** [P] - Private
[Name]'s ZitB** - Public
[Name]'s ZitB** [L] - Locked

I just wanted to say I'm sorry for the way I acted In-Game and on the forums in this topic.

Still haven't heard a thing back from Badspot about getting my key back .__________.

Still haven't heard a thing back from Badspot about getting my key back .__________.
What exactly is the issue?
