Author Topic: Losing Your Religion: brown townytic Thinking Can Undermine Belief  (Read 5809 times)

to me, believing in god is as sensible as believing in ghosts that you can't sense in any way, nor can you prove exist. while you can argue "there's no evidence against it" you could also argue that there's no evidence against every other religion, so that argument doesn't fly. the fact that there's no good evidence for or against religion is enough for me to consider myself an atheist until i am convinced otherwise.
I have seen to many miracles and heard of miracles from my aunt to not believe.

My father as an infant (when he learned how to crawl) was ran over 3 times and still lives.

funny fact: a very slight majority (just over half) of the kids in my honors and accel classes say they consider themselves "heavily religious." it is very perplexing. the remainder has a majority in itself of kids who consider themselves "atheists," and then a more or less even minority of theists and, as they agreed to call it, non-dedicated followers of various religions.
boooo
It can happen.  Lots of the guys I know in my AP/honors classes are "heavily religious" just because of how they're raised or their choice despite being aware of evolution/etc.  They still respect those ideas and think they are correct but at the same time they believe heavily in select parts of Christianity.  Not sure what kind of religion that falls under.

Was it an REM concert?  :cookieMonster:

I've been trying to figure out if the title was an REM reference but it seemed to stern. :cookieMonster:

*Prepares to be flamed to forget*
Listen I talked to my aunt today and she told me something that changed my life FOREVER. I was given the gifts of what I was given for a reason, I was sent to earth as a witness to others to help save them. We take and know this because of these facts:
1. The gifts I was given.
2. The fact that no matter how many times I almost die I turn out just fine.
3. I keep getting attacked for having crazy ass gifts
4. 316 is my number man. My first names John and I see 316 a lot so yea "John: 316"
5. loving Satan doesn't want me to live.
6. Demonic stuff attacks me a lot more than the ones without gifts.

2: If you died, you wouldn't be here to tell us about how turned out okay.
4: I see 119 everywhere, but that's simply because I'm conditioned to see it as it means something to me. Not because the number is calling at me. Also, lots of people are named John. If you weren't named John would that mark 4 as invalid?

1, 3, 5 and 6 are just kind of crazy, not gonna lie. What are these gifts and why do you think demons and satan are after you?

Again, you said your father was ran over 3 times. I don't get why you think this is significant. If he died, you wouldn't be going 'oh he died I guess that means there's no god'.

My father as an infant (when he learned how to crawl) was ran over 3 times and still lives.

I get pissed off by the whole "it's my duty to save you" mentality. I'm fine, my life is great. In fact, financially and so far as education can be used as a measure, i'm better off than you, so who needs saving, and why is your god giving someone who doesn't believe in him a better life than you? (so far as the two listed measures go)

miracles aren't evidence because i could claim anything is a miracle. "lost my pencil and found a new one: MIRACLE!" what could be interpreted as miracles are things that happened that were unlikely to happen. anything that people say is a miracle is just something that happens that was beneficial and unlikely. with the logic of using miracles to prove god, i could use catastrophes as evidence against god.

Was it an REM concert?  :cookieMonster:
no it was a ofwgkta concert  :cookieMonster:
But in all seriousness, it wasn't really a concert, but that's what it was closest to I guess. It was something at a church where people acted out parts and they sang and stuff, so I guess you could call it a play/concert/etc.

Kind of like a rally?

You be damned how people can survive. Now even I think it sounds crazy and I think it might be a lie because I wasn't there.
Here is another miracle:
My uncles uncle or someone was completely brain dead and they were told that even if he doesn't become a vegetable he would have NO memory.
A prayer fixed him.

Here is all you must do to get into the great sky heaven place: Let Jesus into your heart. That's all, you can sin all your life but if you still let him in your heart NO FAKING your not burning.
Ps: Stop trying to change my faith dammit!

it's just more of his "me me me me" mentality. He is now claiming god gave him special gifts no one else has and made him immortal caz he survives his average teenage life is so dangerous and he hasn't died.

Off topic: loving room won't stop moving because I was on a boat ALL DAY and now stuff keeps moving and my brain is fried from the sun.

Explain crazy 3, 5, and 6 please.

My uncles uncle or someone was completely brain dead and they were told that even if he doesn't become a vegetable he would have NO memory.
A prayer fixed him.
So was that person taken to a church or a hospital

I don't see many religious people taking injured/ill people to a church, do you?

My uncles uncle or someone was completely brain dead and they were told that even if he doesn't become a vegetable he would have NO memory.
A prayer fixed him.

How do you know the prayer fixed him? Why don't prayers work on amputees? Can you replicate this as an experiment? Until then, that's not evidence.

Here is all you must do to get into the great sky heaven place: Let Jesus into your heart. That's all, you can sin all your life but if you still let him in your heart NO FAKING your not burning.
Ps: Stop trying to change my faith dammit!

I don't want to change your faith. I respect your religion, I really do. But I will question every and any extraordinary claim, religious or not.

Kind of like a rally?
I guess you could say so. It was inside a church, but there was a lot of people. So yeah.
