Author Topic: Computer lag issue, Please help  (Read 1175 times)

Here is my problem.
I have a old pc that I let me friends use when they come over to game
but it is lagging when I try playing

Age of Pirates 2

and Rise and Fall civilizations at war

It blows the minimum requirements out of the water for both.

The computer has

pentium 4 3.2GH

2GB  DDR2 800

nvidia 8400GT

I know that they are not stunning specs but I'm only trying to run old games

when I play them the games lag bigtime. And yes I have turned the graphics settings down to the lowest, No use.
And I have updated directx

Please help

Do you have anything open while you play?
(IE -  Internet Browser etc.)

Nope, I closed everything.

including windows explorer

Make sure you have all the proper drivers installed, and the approporiate patches for the games, as well. NFS 4, for example, has severe performance issues with any GPU newer than a RIVA TNT2 or Rage 128, unless you install an updated version of the 3D setup.

I have a feeling you have no Idea what you are talking about.

I know exactly what I'm talking about.

You closed explorer.exe, the program that pretty much stops Windows from being headless?

All these make up the first part of my post.

Explorer is what makes it run properly. Its like the backbone of windows.

Actually it only allows you to see whats happening, It takes a bit of RAM though. You can still run programs through the task manager

Download more ram!

It takes a bit of RAM though.
assuming you're using Windows XP, explorer only takes at least 13MB of RAM

I use windows XP and Windows Explorer uses 22MB. Hmm took more than I thought.
