Author Topic: Is jailbreaking an iPhone worth it?  (Read 4646 times)

I'm just wondering, because I'm really interested in some of the Cydia apps.
So, what are the reasons for doing it, and not doing it?
I did look it up, and saw some good reasons, but I want to know you guys' personal opinions.

Also, is there any way at all to make your iPhone play MP3s, and if there is, how would one go about doing it?

i would say no

then again, i don't even have an iphone, but jailbreaking sounds risky to me. i'd guess you should only do it if you really know what you're doing.

I say no.

Doesn't seem like a good idea anyways, seeing as it's not a part of the agreement so if you break it your warranty wont cover it iirc.

These.  So much these.

It isn't as hard as you think. I wouldn't say it's worth it but if you have a friend who knows exactly how to do it and can show you then go for it. Apparently you can restore an iPod's system or something and it'll return your iPod to normal, my brother did it with my old one.

I did it to my ipod. Nothing bad about it.
And for the cigarettes that think that once you jail brake you're forgeted over warranty wised: you can simply restore it to factory default and send it in.

make a backup of the phone with itunes before you do it so if you forget up it doesn't do any permanent damage besides voiding your warranty (UNLESS MAYBE RESTORE TO FACTORY DEFAULT I GUESS?)

it's really easy actually

also can't you just import songs to itunes and sync them?

no I don't think so
All you can do things with are their DRM musics
I'm pretty sure of that

I've imported most of my music to iTunes and put it on my iPod this way.

I jailbroke my old iPod touch. If you have an older generation of either the iPhone or the iPod touch it will slow down performance. You do get a lot of custom options and such though. Mine broke after 2 years. I then just restored it back to factory settings. Brought it to the Apple store. Got the most recent generation for $99 off :D

try right clicking an mp3 and open with itunes
it should go into your library and i'd imagine the next time you sync it'd be added to your iphone
i used to have an ipod but i gave it to my mom so i can't confirm this though

Or go to your music library in iTunes, click on "File" in the top-left corner, select "Add File To Library..." then go to wherever your .mp3 files are and select them, then click "Open"

Also, make sure the .mp3 files you are adding to iTunes are in a permanent/semi-permanent folder, because iirc it messes it up if you change the directory of your files.

Totally worth it imo, back it up before hand then restore if you need to send it in, it isn't hard at all.
1. Plug it in
2. Hold down combo of home and lock buttons
3. click "Jailbreak"
4. Wait
