Author Topic: Holy stuff, This Is In DOS  (Read 2138 times)

Surely this would not run well, if at all, on an intended computer. The point is, adapting the operating system to such a point it could do such things, keeping within certain limitations. It is impressive in that respect, at least?

Same OS, better hardware.

This isn't very surprising.
It's the lighting in such a primative OS.

I don't even know if DirectX existed in DOS.

am i the only one who doesnt know what dos is

A very old text based operating system before Windows 95 and 3.11 and such.

Calling it made in DOS is kinda false considering there's this thing called a graphics card
Actually, pretty early in the video it says it doesn't run on a video card.
Retyping because can't copy paste text from a video:
Quote
// Mesa is an open-source OpenGL implementation.
// OSMesa is its off-screen driver, used for rendering into a memory buffer
// rather than through a graphics card. This is great for making OpenGL work
// pretty much on anything, including DOSBox on its emulated basic VGA hardware.

Just remembered these game. Played them so much as a kid.

And doom was made with and for computers a billion times less powerful.

An implementation of OpenGL. Nothing too much to be impressed about.
