well the wii totally put me off from nintendo for pretty much ever.
the wiiU is impressive hardware-wise, but it still will likely have nothing but the rehashed franchises and overused motion controls.
the family friendliness isnt what made the wii suck, its their disregard for hardcore gamers. the new wii hasnt solved that issue (yet?)

The wii is pretty much a bored parent activity machine/cheap netflix machine. Althought I think the kinect has taken its place.
