Author Topic: Space travel via black holes  (Read 7075 times)

Did you need to add the "Get it right" part

Now we aren't happy with eachother
I didn't need to but I felt offended.

Doesn't quantum teleportation theoretically destroy you and create a copy of you at the destination?
Yeah, but the whole destruction dealio is just so that you don't have two of you walking around which would be a moral issue of which one is the real one and which do you kill

oops @ double post

Welcome to a loving rabbit hole of philosophical mindforget.
Don't even start thinking about it unless you enjoy depersonalization.
Don't worry, I know what you mean. Dwelling on things is not always the best idea.

However, have any of you guys seen Christopher Nolan's The Prestige?

MATTER AND ANTI-MATTER
JEEZ GUYS

but black holes suck in crap and destroy matter

wormholes would be a better idea

Premise: Create engine using black holes for power, not directly using the property of black holes to suck everything into a spatial sinkhole.
Situation: Black holes suck in crap and destroy matter.

Conclusion: Going inside a black hole, which is defined as "suck[ing] in crap and destroy[ing] matter", is safer than just using it via an indirect generation of power.

spaghettification is a very fun way to die anyway

At first I thought you were saying by going into black holes, which would be completely wrong.

But this is still tech far beyond our current capabilities.

We won't be seeing deep space travel in our lifetime.

I don't see how you harness any type of energy from a black hole, or at the very least contain one

technically we already can contain black holes

there are tiny black holes made in particle accelerators, but they evaporate

unless that's old outdated information that's been proven wrong since i heard it?

i'm pretty sure black holes evaporate, that's the whole hawking radiation thing is about

hawking radiation
when i read this i instantly thought of tiny stephen hawkings flying out of a blackhole

i don't know why

according to something i read a couple seconds ago, it'd probably be more like pairs of mini stephen hawkings being generated around the space outside the event horizon, one being a negative mini hawking and getting sucked in reducing the mass of the black hole, and the other mini stephen flying away weee

a couple people already partially said this

it's pretty much loving impossible
if this ever works it will be thousands of years from now unless some major phenomena happens

why?
because the black hole would rip you, anyone you're with, and the ship to atoms
not pieces
atoms

that's been exclaimed many times in the discussion of travel via black holes.
