it's not making an ass of yourself at all, it's just being confident and basically not giving a forget. i thought the same way you did for about a year in highschool, then it hit me that they weren't being mean at all, they were being confident and playful. with my lastest girlfriend, if i had tried to barrage her with kindness nothing would have happened, so instead i started playfully having goes at her, drawing on her books and stuff, calling her pet names that she "hated" - we've been dating for a year now. kindess and love comes after you've got your foot in the door, not before
