Author Topic: Favorite Video Game Companies?  (Read 8708 times)

Valve, Sony and Atari.

That is how business works. Big companies buy small companies. Some of the games they make/produce a very good.

I can't understand how people hate EA because their games are "rushed" when they all flock to Valve. Valve games look rushed even if they take years and years to make. Nearly every Valve game I have seen looks like it was made 5 years before the time when it was released. And before you guys go wah wah graphics don't make games, the most important thing to do when trying to make anything look like it was done with care it to make it look nice. Basically, Valve is a company that is loved because instead of being efficient and shiny, they take 5 years to spew out their bad-looking games. EA may be an "evil corporation", but they can keep things on a decent timeline and make them look nice.
Graphics play a part in the game, but emphasis on graphics and gameplay should go hand in hand(balanced). Now for my argument:

The thing is that most Valve are good. Look at TF2, during its initial release it was very good and over few years they killed with hats and wierd looking and out of place weapons(some of them balance breaking). Now look at BF3, it hasn't been out for a year and they already have dlcs and a buy everything without working for stuff system.

Valve learns from its mistakes and trys to improve from past expierences, where as EA blames things on pirates and acts like all is fine. Since the episodic system for HL hasn't done what they hoped, Valve said they would bake there titles more so they don't upset fans. EA's fix for everything is a "DLC".

Valve prices things accordingly and drops the price over time as the game gets old and less interesting. EA says that stuff on Steam is expensive and digital distribution should be cheaper. So they go ahead take almost everything off steam, make steam, and make the prices off most of their games around 60 bucks(most of which were origionally 50 on steam).

Both companies take a peak into your privacy. Valve specially says what they scan your computer where as EA says, "we can look for whatever". Even after you unistall Origion you can see strange ips from a DOS Screen.

EA buys companies and then FUBARs them. Look at Westwood, bought out by EA only to have the origional staff fired(expect the guy who played as kane) and replaced by idiots. EA has bought out many companies and has milked many titles by simplifying gameplay. Valve has only bought Turtle Rock studios, although they let them go and Turtle Rock became its on company again.

Now for mods. Mods are something that PC games will always be something console games won't have. If a mod group makes something interesting Valve will hire them for their talent to make a game. EA on the other hand will buy out the guys who made a mod and make them create game and also make it unmoddle*cough*BF3*cough*.

valve because thay give me cheap games and Bioware obsidian and unreal if they count

If you are talking about the game Unreal, Epic Games made it.

Epic Games, Obsidian and Bethesda because of their amazing game qualities, such as their amazing story-lines and outstanding gameplay along with jaw-dropping graphics. (Well as of now Bethesda has jaw dropping graphics.)

Valve bought Black Cat too, only to have them remake the free and 100% unmonetizable Alien Swarm.

Have you played BF3? The whole pay to win thing that everyone comments about is completely false lol. After a few days, I got to the top of servers occasionally with like a level 3 character with pretty much no special items. Sure, you can pay for higher tier stuff, but it really doesn't give you much of an advantage.

As for the fix with DLC thing, I haven't really noticed any bugs at all with BF3 or Need For Speed games. So I haven't actually seen EA try to fix anything. I do suppose there were a few updates for both of those games though.

Dropping prices over time. Both companies probably do what they feel will make the most money for them. Also, it makes sense that EA took their games off of Steam. It probably isn't free for someone to put their game on Steam, so Valve is going to take a cut off of the top of all of their profits. In addition, they probably are forced to sign a scary contract that allows Valve to put their stuff on huge sales. Though, you'd think by leaving Steam that EA would make more profit and therefore be able to sell their games at a lower price.

Random people are pinging your computer all of the time. And a large company looking at your computer isn't very scary. They won't actually do anything except put you in a spreadsheet.

When you buy a company, you put that company to your standards. I don't imagine that EA fires people who are competent just for fun. If someone gets fired it might be for a reason. I also image that the above mentioned special Steam contacts are not helpful to a small game company. Valve doesn't need to buy companies because they can make just as much money by sucking on their Steam revenue.

Mods are pretty cool so that is disappointing. I can't imagine they will do this forever though.

Ubisoft, always original

Yea but I was thinking of unreal engine I don't even know what company it is I'm guessing epic games though?

Valve, Arena Net, (NCSoft), Trion Worlds.

And another person going for the "It's just business" routine of EA defence.

The only thing I said that remotely resembles that is that they should fire people who don't live up to their standards. I suppose you think that companies should hire a bunch of hobos and never fire them because that would be mean.

Why can't I vote for Valve three times?

Still missing 2K Games
BioShock series and Borderlands
