In the great US of A herbal medic en and dietary additives are not regulated or tested. If it's not poison you can put a label on it and receive money.
Lugnut, you said that you were sick and ate some sort of medication for a period of time before you tried a herbal solution. Have you been often sick and eaten similar medication previously?
yes, i have had repeated problems with my ears getting ear infections throughout my childhood.
in the past, prior to, and including, the most recent instance, i have taken antibiotics and have gone through the entire antibiotic (approximately a month's dosage?) and the problem was resolved. i seem to recall having to go back for more in some instances, but I'm not positive.
however, the herbal treatment was... given(I don't want to say prescribed, nor "suggested") to me by the nearby college of oriental medicine. as stated, I believe it was less than 3 days before the problem was resolved and my hearing was back up to near-perfect capacity. i'm positive i found results in less than 7 days, in comparison to the western approach which took the whole month-long dose.

i think you're not exactly clear on how the whole system here works. forget, neither of us are, but let me try to explain my view:
doctors are literally paid by the pharmecutical industry (pharmacies) to market their drug. now, don't get me wrong. i'm not saying every single doctor is like this, and not every doctor is corrupt, just like how not every politician is corrupt. the unfortunate fact is that some are. I want to say "most" here, but i can't back that with sources, so i won't.
