it's because of the lighting engine (or something) that kompressor is using is really inefficient. he could've used a different one but apparently it was huge and it was larger than the default blockland itself

That would be the physics library. I believe they tried PhysX first but it was huge.

Hope theres a way to change that, I would love the lighting with dark rooms will be dark. It would be awesome.

Yes. There is a slider for ambient light. But that will also cause all shadows outside to be pitch black because no sane game developer is going to support bounce lighting.
