If you go sniper 99% of the time you WILL be kicked. The only time you should ever go sniper is if you are with friends because they know how good you are and wont mind as much.
Sniper is pretty much a stufftier demoman in MvM, and there is almost no reason to go sniper unless you are absolutely amazing.

It's not, it's a straight upgrade IF you can consistently get headshots.

its dps isn't as massive as other classes, even though it's still absolutely fantastic to have a competent sniper on your team in mvm

It comes down to personal skill. There are a lot of people who say "I want to play sniper!" and then cant snipe a normal heavy. Its all about constant headshots, and MvM tends to attract a lot of stuffty snipers, so overall its better to have a demoman than to risk it with a sniper.

someone did a lot of calculations on which sniper rifle gives the most dps

basically the hitman's heatmaker and the bazaar bargain are the best (bazaar bargain is slightly higher)

also explosive headshots are very necessary
