Prime matchmaking was not enough in counter-strike. Now for counter-strike you will probably need a phone number for overall matchmaking.

You ONLY have to buy the $10 pass if you don't want to provide a phone number and don't have a premium account (you can upgrade to premium by buying anything from the mann co. store). If you already have a premium account you can join for free by having a valid phone number linked to your account.


Heck buying the pass would upgrade your account to premium. The only reason you would want to buy the pass is if you don't want to provide a phone number. Other than that it's free.
