You need Steam and I THINK hl2.

It worked for me and I don't have HL2.

Multiplayer doesn't work for me for some reason. It always says "invalid steam user ID ticket"

Exit Steam then go into Program Files\Steam\config\and delete 'config.vdf', then delete 'clientregistry.blob' inside 'Program Files\Steam\'. Re-open Steam. It will stop giving that error.

Dunno about config.vdf but deleting clientregistry won't.

If you want to be on the safe side you can just rename them.

You just have to log in again, and maybe reselect your download location.

You don't even need any Valve games. The only thing you need is Source SDK. Anyone with a Steam account can download it free via Steam>Library>Tools.
