Author Topic: Nearly 25,000 schoolteachers to go on strike in Chicago monday  (Read 3821 times)

i hate how powerful teachers' unions have become

like jesus christ, they're teachers, not doctors.  they aren't supposed to choose their own salary

They still have to put up with self-entitled brats like you for a measly minimum wage.

I'd consider that a tough job.

>implying elementary school teachers make doctors
>implying elementary school teachers do anything
>implying anything in elementary school is useful.
You dumb motherforgeter, Elementary school prepares you for whatever other schools you go to. Sure an elementary school education alone more than likely won't be enough to land you a career, but you cant just start at 9th grade.
Besides, what's a kid going to be doing for those 6 or so years anyway?

Madison had one February 2011.

It's funny CPS want to add more hours in a school day...

No, they did. This year, we finally have the same length of classes as all the other public schools in the U.S.

How long are your classes again?

It's supposed to be 8 hours but a few kids have less periods so it's around 7 hours to 8 hours.

7 hours here and my school is good on education plus I have late start so 5 hours every Monday... I like my school.

why are you two having such a large argument over this
this is the forums. we have a habit of arguing over dumb things.

I'd say this one requires a little more critical thinking than most arguments on here.

ITT: everyone calls eachother dumb, arguing about elementary school even though the strike affects every single school in the system

They've said the strike is going to go on for today and tommorow. god damnit rahm give them what they want.

Kids should be in school for six-seven hours. I would be tired and unwilling to learn by the end of the day. Besides its the same stuff every year in English. Not mention schools are filled with fillers like art, history of art, sports, pe, and classes so that students stay longer and the teachers get payed more.

Anyway the current education system and current job hiring methods are stuff. For example your dad is a mechanic and he taught you everything to know over the years about how to fix cars. Now you want to pursue that career as a mechanic, however every employers requires that you have a college degree and apartly whatever your dad taught you isn't good enough. So now you either go to a trade school or college. At the college you are accepted a you are now required to take classes like math, english, the history of art, contributions of gays and lesbians, intro to spanish literature and none of those classes contribute or have anything to do with your career and you have to take those in order to get out of that school. So yeah its more of a nickel and diming thing.

So What should we do? I believe elmentary schools should teach general education then jr. highschools help students find a career path to take while be taught a little more general education. In highschool students should be taught everything they know about the career that want. Colleges should be around to teach those who didn't know what to do in highschool.

Junior High is only 2-3 years. I don't think finding a career path could be that quick. Plus if a kid couldn't find one by the end of two years, he's stuffforgeted in high school because he has to have picked a career.

Lol, Unions are filled with so much bullstuff.
