Author Topic: wtf people say pop not soda here  (Read 3539 times)

I do this and everyone I know generally asks by brand name.
"I'm gonna get a Coke", "I want a 7Up", "Do you want a Lilt?"

I wouldn't really call fizzy drinks Sodas. I'd call drinks like Pepsi and Coke 'Cola', and otherwise I'd refer to all similar drinks as "Soft Drinks" or "Fizzy drinks".

Yeah exactly.

People in my family sometimes refer to it as a fizzy drink as well. "Do you want a fizzy" lol.

Everyone I know or ever have known always refer to drinks by their brand names and not through a general term such as soda or pop.
Awkward aunties who treat me like I'm five excluded, of course.

This must be another one of those "quirks" America has which the general populace seem to be blissfully ignorant of

Well you're also in the ass-backwardsistan capital new zealand too

I call it by brand name.

i always say soda or the brand name
pop sounds stupid
soda pop sounds ok but just soda alone sounds better

"im going to get something to drink"

"im going to get something to drink"
That implies you want an alcoholic beverage.

We call it "soft drink" or "soda"
Mostly "soft drink"
That implies you want an alcoholic beverage.
No it doesn't...
If they said "I'm getting a beer" than you'd be right.
