Author Topic: this just in: counter strike takes place in the same universe as L4D  (Read 6745 times)

They don't take place in the same universe. Left 4 Dead takes place in our world - with the added scenario of the Green Flu. Left 4 Dead also takes place in Fall 2008 - and CS:GO hadn't been released back then so it doesn't exist yet. I'm only mentioning that because Valve's other games like CS: Source, TF2 and Half-Life exist in Left 4 Dead. But basically, it takes place in the universe we live in - except the Green Flu happened.

There were some screens released before CS:GO's launch, this has been known for a while. I think it's pretty cool. I don't understand why some people hate it. The game is cheap, and they're barely the same map. One is destroyed and takes place in a completely different game, while the other is in tip-top shape and takes place in a completely different gameplay setting.

Pretty sure there are other maps from L4D2 I think.

Late summer: 2008 - The counter terrorists were trying to stop the terrorists from releasing a biological weapon that infected normal humans and made them feral.

Early fall - Unfortunately the weapon was released in the terrorists' stronghold while the counter terrorists were about to close in, forcing them to evacuate.

2 weeks after infection - population is infected and only a few are immune. Ground zero is overrun with infected. Survivors in the US have to evacuate or survive while the remaining counter terrorists, now CEDA are attempting to quell the infection with biological as well as long ranged combat means.

Seems alright to me - the assets they reused were retextured to be clean enough for CS's environment, and if the asset is interesting looking and adds to the gameplay, it's alright with me.

since you can only guess at the timeframes of the counter strike games based on the weapons and tech you use in them, you could probably arrange any theoretical l42·cs events however you want

sounds like the mercy hospital dlc from payday the heist

Payday: The Heist's Left 4 Dead prologue is non-canon.

There is also Louis' "Man, I feel like I'm Gordon Freeman" line. Then in the comic, you can see a Heavy bobble-head on his desk. There are tons of references pointing towards the fact that Valve's other games exist in the Left 4 Dead world. I also am pretty sure Chet has said that it takes place in our universe. Even so, there's enough evidence pointing towards the fact that it does.

Point is, Counter-Strike does not take place in the same universe as Left 4 Dead.

Nonetheless, it's pretty cool how some of the maps are fixed up versions of the chapters in Left 4 Dead 2. Nice to see what they could have looked like before the infection.

Yeah, Louis says that he's played Counter-Strike before, making the L4D-is-same-universe-as-CS theory pretty NULL AND VOID

yeah that

I'd say the Half-life series and Portal series are related, but Portal is less dark and I'd only consider the Borealis cannonical. Day of Defeat and Counter Strike could have a similiar universe. Team Fortress Classic and TF2 could be similiar if you count the picture of the TFC Engineer patting the TF2 engineer on the head.

Half-Life and Portal do take place in the same universe. There's the Borealis, then there is Cave Johnson referencing Black Mesa and claiming they stole technology from him. I'm pretty sure there are some other references but they do in-fact take place in the same universe.

Not too sure about Team Fortress, not a big fan.

Never played Day of Defeat, so I'm lost on that one.

Then L4D as mentioned, takes place in our world in a "what-if" scenario, so to say.

Never played Day of Defeat, so I'm lost on that one.

it's just a WW2 game

Ok, I'm going to summarize what I know:

L4D is the main universe (alternate path of reality, so to speak)
TFC and TF2 are in the same universe; confirmed by TF2 engineer's dad being TFC's engineer
The CS series and DoD might be in the same universe but that's up to Valve to decide, I figured they're war games of real-life battles (WW2 and USA's War on Terror) so they would be in that vein; however:
CS, Ricochet and Deathmatch Classic are (at least by the Steam store pages) to be in the same universe, at different points in time.
The HL series and Portal series are 100% confirmed, Portal references Black Mesa several times and vice versa.
And finally, Alien Swarm is more likely than not in it's own universe.
