Morality != Legality
I even said because ~morals~
I mean if I cared about the legal side of things I'd check up on any licenses that came with the game to see if second copies are legal (odds are, the license also covers removing the ROM from the cart so it's also illegal to rip it)
MORALLY SPEAKING - WHICH IS THE IMPORTANT PART, FRANKLY - it's fine if you have a copy of the ROM while also owning a legitimate copy of the game. You've paid for the game, if you want to play it elsewhere there's nothing wrong with that.
Uploading the ROM and thus enabling piracy however
is a moral blackspot. For every legitimate downloader there's going to be tens if not hundreds of illegitimate ones, thus if you upload it (or allow it to seed from a torrent) you are still in the wrong.
Frankly, legality can suck my richard. I have enough confidence in my own moral compass to know if what I'm doing is wrong or right given that I know what I am doing and what it entails. If I don't have enough information, I would follow the legal advisory for the situation as a guideline. If I feel I have enough information to form my own judgement, I will do so.
