Author Topic: I feel like new games are improving graphics but removing gameplay  (Read 1116 times)

This is simply only a example, I'm not bashing any particular game.

Original: Had decent graphics, great team play mechanics, good combat/ whatever the point of the game is (Like puzzles or something.)

New, modern title: Great graphics, minimum team play, generic gameplay (Like your regular FPS game, its almost always the same thing.)

I feel like most game sequels just copy the same mechanics from other games.

Why can they just make the original game have better graphics and better functionality, I would still get it. D:

i can't think of any games that have done this without already being generic

non-generic gameplay

you do realize that non-generic means original, which means it's unique right

Minecr.. Owait it doesn't have any sequels.

All the updates could count as sequels.

isnt that the whole point of sequels

same core gameplay and adding new content/mechanics

Every new game has to have some improved aesthetic to it anyways, or people won't buy it because "it looks bad"

You have to improve both, or improve the graphics significantly just to lure people in with all the shiny lights and bloom.

If your looking for graphically pleasing fairly-original games...
Far Cry (third one comes out end of November/beginning of December)
Just Cause (mainly the second one, 15 bucks on steam, nearly 25 with all the DLC)
Skyrim on PC is always good with mods for moar contentz.
Duty Calls (best game ever http://duty-calls.en.softonic.com/ )

If you just want Gameplay...
Kerbal Space Program
Minecraft

I can't remember where I first saw this image, but it's made of true.

Most games spend 90% of the budget on graphics. Still, there are metric forgettons of amazing games still being made, even with great graphics.

I sometimes wish my childhood was during the retrogaming years where the mainstream games were games that people just tried to beat each other's highscores.

Nowadays there are so many games and they are all so complicated that I just lost track.

there have always been terrible games

the trait of improved graphics with worsened gameplay is mostly only demonstrated in games that make sequels and prequels and continuations and spinoffs just for the sake of making money

there are still games coming out with good aesthetic appeal and good gameplay (eg Quantum Conundrum)

you're exaggerating.
