The 8400 is all kinds of terrible.

Did this happen suddenly? No hardware changes or anything?
Your video card could have fried, that happened to me once. Any sort of 3D application, even the most basic, would get single-digit FPS, or completely crash once it tried to render something 3D

it's sufficient enough for windows 7 but the processor is lacking somewhat, if his computer came with bloatware he should probably downgrade to get more optimal performance

i'm dead serious

Bearing in mind that I know very little about computers and how they really work stuff...

Since you're trying an old game, have you tried playing it in Compatibility Mode?
Some old games just do not work with new OS's. I wouldn't put it as too unlikely that a game 12 years old, like Star Trek Armada might work better in compatibility mode. Even my copy of Star Trek Armada: II, which is a year younger isn't much better, and is rather touchy/glitchy.

Go to the shortcut for the game and right click.
Select Properties.
Then select the Compatibility tab.
Then toggle "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"
Then select Windows XP (Service Pack 3).

If that doesn't work, then have a fiddle around with the other options under "Settings" within the Properties window.

And then there are some old games that just don't run very well at all on any thing new.
Does the computer play any more modern games, that are known to run on the specs and OS you have?

1st OMG you have a copy of armada 2, so lucky, it's worth like $70

also yes I have fiddled with the compatibility mode settings ETC

It seems to be an issue with maybe directx, even this pc should be able to run armada, my other pc runs it fine and has less then half the specs

Answer this:

600 MB hard drive space? Good gosh, my old lame-o windows 98 desktop has fifty times as much hard drive space.

That's the game's requirements, not his computer's specs

misread that you had 32mb ram on your computer
