It was a pain to walk to quests in New Vegas also. And it's not like there are a lot of endings in that game, either.
F:NV was the first BEthesda game to use radiant quests. Quests that are different determined upon things you've already done. The end battle had so many outcomes. NCr, Legion, Independent, House... Plus all the "backup" you can get. Khans, Securitrons, Boomers, Enclave etc.
