Sims 2 vs Sims 3

I wanted to play Sims 2, but I ended up getting Sims 3 instead. Now, I think it's probably too late to try to play it since I'm so used to playing Sims 3.

As far as I can tell without spending tons of money, Sims 3 discarded all the expansions made for Sims 2, rather than using them as a starting point. That already puts it down as a bad sequel in my opinion.

What do you expect from EA? Same thing happened from sims 1 to 2.
