Author Topic: banning for talking about piracy but not other illegal things?  (Read 3044 times)

It's really more so that piracy is offensive to a game developer and that it's an explicitly stated rule for the forums.  Nowhere on the forum rule list is it stated that you can't talk about illegal drugs or underage consumption of alcohol/etc.
besides, a majority of members are under 21.
and a majority of those users have probably consumed alcohol, either illegally or under parental supervision (which is actually perfectly legal in a majority of states when it takes place in your own home under parental guidance).
and besides, the users who have, I bet 90% of them have done it legally with a parent.

There's nothing badspot can do about that anyway.

He can ban people on the spot for piracy though, just because a) it's offensive to game devs (especially indie devs), b) you're basically robbing Badspot of his hard earned $20 and c) it can happen instantly and is easy to do.

we do specialize in it though.
Not really, there's no "hurp durp smok weed erry day" subforum anything that promotes it.
And a majority of the people here haven't even passed 18 yet, yet there are forum threads handing out free research to them and potheads crying to them that drugs are the best thing ever.

I think the rule regarding Pirating related stuff is because, due to the ease of which one can start pirating, it's very easy for any topic about piracy to lead to people being recommended pirating software, or the best sites for it or tips or what not.
Discussing piracy is too easy to lead to people spreading or promoting piracy.

I'm sure there are people on these forums who have pirated. And they'd probably have no problem discussing the way they do it. But then that leads to more people learning how to pirate and before you know it, it seems like this forum advocates piracy.

Discussing drugs is slightly different because regardless of what is discussed it's harder to show people how to find illegal drugs. You could discuss where to find drugs, but that would likely get you banned. But that sort of thing is less likely to come up in discussion of drugs, whereas in discussion of piracy you're much likelier to mention where to find the resources to pirate, since it's all on the internet.
If you could download drugs then maybe discussing it would be banned on here.

Plus, take into consideration that Badspot is a game developer and has produced a number of things online which produce revenue for him. Discussing piracy only promotes people cutting into his earnings.

You sound like your typical misguided politician.

I wanted to say something like this

but that's just plain rude and he'd probably be mad or something

and then everyone in the thread gets banned

It should be a rule not to discuss stuff like drugs here.
This is a lego game for 9 year old children, if you want to talk about the thug lyfe go to a community that specializes in it.
No, it's not.

I think he just hates the people doing the drugs and talking about them rather than the drugs themselves or research.

Oh in that case, I killed 6 people and I'm keeping their heads in my freezer. I also committed Grand Theft auto and delt in illegal operations on the black market. I stole from several convenience stores and kidnapped a little girl once. Also I'm a cannibal.

Speaking of laws.

You know what's funny?
It's perfectly legal to forget a horse in the state of Minnesota as long as it's not dead.

That's actually why there's a joke in Minnesota about the educational system there:
"You give the kids some books and a horse to get to school, instead they stand on the books and forget the horse."

Its also legal to forget a horse in like 42 other states.
Horse loving is legal in more states than gay marriage is.
