Summary: World of Warplanes is a massive multiplayer real time game in the genre of [arcade flight simulator] in the historical setting of World War II, announced by Wargaming.net on June 7, 2011 in Los Angeles at Electronic Entertainment Expo. The game is now at the stage of global alpha testing.

History

In June 2011 Wargaming.net announced the game World of Warplanes and published an article on the website of World of Tanks, "World of Warplanes. The first part stating that the gameplay, the overall global map and the financial system will be similar to WoT.
In August 2011 Wargaming.net announced that the game was in the early alpha-testing stage and opened the official forum. This was followed by a few details about the game as well as a trailer (which was submitted to Gamescom 2011).
The Alpha-version of the game was shown for the first time at Igromir - Russian videogame convent. The games's Lead Designer Ivan Kulbich, a Nikitova Games employee revealed developers' plans about alpha-testing and it's participants.
According to DotMMO, the game entered global alpha testing on February 23, 2012.

Gameplay

The game is developed on the same engine as the World of Tanks, BigWorld, but according to developers it will be specially adapted for aircraft.

Overview

Fights will occur in the air. The two teams will take part in battles lasting over 15 minutes. The battles will end when one side is eliminated or all of the ground targets at the enemy base are destroyed.
The Game is currently in Alpha testing, and very few details have been released. Players who have leaked information have been banned, and their "World of Tanks" account banned as well. Several of these players are facing legal action.

Technique in the game

World of Warplanes will include military vehicles from several key periods in the history of aircraft - from 1930s era biplanes to those from the Korean War, which became the progenitors of modern aircraft.
The game will allow the player to choose from three basic classes of vehicles: fighters, the most effective in melee combat maneuvering, heavy fighters, threatening any adversary with a powerful armament, and "storm troopers" - the main hunters of ground targets. For each type of aircraft will be available several types of weapons and a variety of options for the airframe and engines.
During beta testing phase World of Warplanes will have 60 types of aircraft of German, Soviet and US origin. In the future it is planned to add British and Japanese aircraft with new branches as well as to add aircraft gradually in the course of the game.

Controls

There will be two types of aircraft control - expert and simplified. The same engine supports joysticks and gamepads.

Game locations

The game will be represented by several large gaming locations with dynamic weather conditions that will affect the controllability of the airplane.

Financial System'

Depending on the success in the battle, the player will get credits and experience that can be spent on research and purchasing modules and equipment. Also in the game plan to gold, which will be shared with the World of Tanks. It can be spent on buying premium equipment, weapons and consumables, to create your own clan, the development of the crew as well as to a premium account.

Teamplay

In World of Warplanes Players can join in Squadron (similar to platoons in WoT), as well as to create a clan and participate in the battles on the global map, which will be shared with the World of Tanks.

Just got accepted to closed beta and seen this.
no WoWP for me.

I got in during Alpha, haven't played it much since then.

I couldn't get a hang of it's controls.

I played the beta for a few days but then it got boring.

If its not tooo big, I'm excited for World of Warships.
looks awesome, like it would require teamwork...

omg another WoW clone.

The gameplay is really crappy.
I hope World of Battleships doesn't have bad controls like this one.

I'd imagine this game's controls being crappy because of the fully 3D battlefield
EDIT:
it's also World of Warships...

The controls are actually pretty nice.

The mouse control couldn't be better, and the joystick support is amazing too.
I love the game.

The controls didn't bother me as much after I got used to them, but there was no option to turn off the foliage in the training levels, so I could never finish them due to latency issues.

But we're not aposta talk bout the beta.
This game is great and the controls are amazing, you just have to use a joystick. I use my joystick/throttle combo and it's so smooth and fluid (Siatek X52).
The planes are great too, not too crazy about some of the jet-propelled planes being ahead of their time (these "world of" games are all taking place during WWII right?), but the assault planes are awesome.
Even more excited for World of Warships and the combination of all three games.

But we're not aposta talk bout the beta.
I dont see why, it is stupid to think that not talking about it will make it better.
this is a way for more people to sign up, thus improving chances a bug will be caught.

Guys try War Thunder! It's a more realistic and better option for guys based on what you criticized on WoW. I play both games and like them both alot! I like War Thunder a bit more due to the realisim of the graphics and the gameplay. Both games have highs and lows. But in War Thunder, it's harder to get new planes. Plus, you start with stuffty biplanes and get shot down by F-86 and Mig-17 or by P-51 and Yak-3, or even bombers (A B-17 engaged into a dogfight with my PBY and shot me down)! Both games are good. Later, when the game will be officialy realesed (it's in closed beta now), it'll have the combination of all three World of. You'll be able to play as a plane, tank, or battleship! Oops, forgot to mention that War Thunder is completely free, with additional expensive packs. Give War Thunder a try!
