Author Topic: what movement controls do you use?  (Read 3532 times)

just wondering
i've always used arrow keys and i've tried switching to wasd but i had so much trouble getting used to it i just switched back

why would you ever use anything other than WASD

arrow keys are so uncomfortable and annoying to use i dont even know how people use them in the first place.

oh my god my 1000th post was wasted on this stuff.

if you don't use WASD I have no idea how you can even play it.

why would you ever use anything other than WASD
because when i very first started playing computer games(as in games on pbs kids and neopets and stuff) i would use arrow keys and i didn't really even know some games made you move with WASD so since i've always used arrow keys i still use them, because i'm used to them

I use to use arrow keys when I was like 7, then I realized how much easier WASD was.

either way i've used arrow keys for like
somewhere around 7 years?? idk a long time
and i've tried switching to wasd but it is really really awkward to use for me

this

Only game I've ever played with arrow keys is Maplestory, and recently I've been using a gamepad instead, lol.
WASD is just the way it was always meant to be, Shy, you're gonna have to get used to it

Yeah arrow keys work well on games where you don't need to use the mouse often

I use WASD.
What I do wonder though is what people use for their building controls.

When I first got Blockland I had it on a desktop PC and would use the NumPad for brick controls.
But I then got my own Laptop which didn't have a NumPad so I had to use the Laptop controls;
("IJKL" for directional movement, "UO" for rotation, "P;" for shifting up and down, ",." for shifting up and down by a single plate, "[" for activating light).

However, since going back to a desktop computer and having a keyboard with a NumPad, for the life of me, I just can not use the NumPad for brick use. It feels too alien and uncomfortable to have my right hand that far away. I barely use the numpad ever in and out of Blockland. I still have to use the Laptop controls for brick movement. Anyone else like this?

I use to use the arrow keys for a short time when I first got Blockland, but it was tooa awkward.
At the time my left hand would knock into my right when I was building (as I was using the NumPad at the time), and I wasn't very confident with my left hand on the arrow keys, as usually it's my right hand there.
Which meant I was very slow at moving with the arrow keys if I used my left hand.
And if I used my right hand then I couldn't control my mouse (because I've got no control at all with that when using leftie), so I would have to aim my character and then walk.

Needless to say I would take forever to build stuff stuff and I was useless in things like Deathmatches.

i used a controller once using xpadder just to see what it'd be like in a dm

lesson learned: keyboard+mouse >>>>>>>>>> controller

WASD is just the way it was always meant to be, Shy, you're gonna have to get used to it
but i have always used arrow keys though
i've tried over and over again to start using wasd and i couldn't do anything because i kept still pressing the arrow keys or having to look down at the keyboard

also i usually have my ring finger on left, middle on up, pointer on right, and i just move my middle finger if i need to move down
if i need to crouch i move my ring finger to shift, middle going diagonally across left and up, and pointer on right
and then i have my right hand on the mouse

EDIT: i've only used a laptop for a short time and i couldn't play blockland on it because firstly it was my dad's laptop and secondly it was linux or something and i didn't understand

Uub

I replaced jet with plant brick, using the numpad thing was tedious for me

But i have disable jump+jet and set jet to the right mouse button to use some weapons and tools

oh and also i have plant brick set to control
when i first played BL i didn't know how to build, and eventually i ended up changing the plant brick key to control and then i didn't change it and ended up always using it
