Author Topic: Does the NVIDIA GeForce GT 620 graphics card 1GB support BL's version of shaders  (Read 3535 times)

Instead of the GTX 660TI I would recommend the AMD 7950. I asked about this on TomsHardware and many reviews said the 660TI were good but the 7950 is a bit better. Overall they are both VERY good cards, the GTX 660TI sometimes does better in some games and vice versa for the 7950. However the extra 1GB will help with Blocklands Shader feature, I purchased the 7950 over the GTX 550Ti.

This card comes with 3 games, Far Cry 3, Sleeping Dogs, and Hitman. Don't purchase the cards just because it comes with more games or a better game, but this just an extra accessory if you decide to go with the card.

I dont have the TI version. I have the normal version.

I'm actually going to go with Altiris on this one. Thanks for your help.

Never mind the above. I'll do a poll.

I have a GeForce GT 610, and I can run blockland at min-high depending how many bricks there are.

Well, I have my new computer and I'm running shaders. The setting's on max and there is a below-average FPS. However it's something I can live with for a while.

I would like it if 5 more people completed the poll so that I could choose my next graphics card.

I have a feeling Blockland is more CPU intensive than GPU intenvisve, even with shaders. When I had my 550TI I would load up slate city and get around 40/50fps. I installed my AMD 7950 and right now I have 70FPS. If you want to get a card to support shaders that isn't too expensive I would suggest an AMD 7770 HIS iCooler edition (its around $130) (my friend has this and its better than my 550TI and my 550TI would run Max but would be a bit laggy on servers like the Medieval RP). If you want to go all in for an expensive card I would really suggest the extra bucks for the 7950 over the GTX 660TI because of the extra GB and its 384bits compared to the gtx 660ti being 192bit. The AMD 7950 performs better than the 660TI when Anti Aliasing is enabled, which is a necessity for me when I play Blockland.

If you play other games besides Blockland thats another reason to get the 7950, honestly though if you ONLY play Blockland and don't want to spend the extra bucks a GTX 660TI is great.

Fun Fact: In Far Cry 3, from the 550TI I went from 32FPS max on land to around 70 on the 7950. When swimming in water on the 550TI I went from around 50fps to 90fps.

Another note, do you have a good power supply/does your power supply meet the requirements and all that?

I don't understand what you mean by this.

If you're asking about my computer, I have a new Dell XPS 8500 with an Intel Core i5 Processor.

The Sapphire 7950 is a pretty big card, 11.42inches, make sure it fits in your case, it didnt fit in mine and so I got the MSI version which basically an inch shorter but more money, it also claims that it cools 20% cooler. You need a minimum of a 500W Power Supply for the AMD 7950 card, you also need a 6pin and 8pin or 6+2pin to connect it. Im glad I asked you about this, you might've ended up purchasing the card and your PC wouldnt be able to power it

How do I check for all of this?

I tried looking online but I can't find the exact specs of your Dell XPS 8500. What you can do is try opening your PC, find where your current graphics card and measure from there to see how long it can fit. For your power supply it is mounted either at the top or bottom, try and see if you can find a name or a brand name, you can take a picture of it and post it here also.

medium at best.

at LEAST upgrade to a 9800gt you can run 1440x900 max with some lag with that piece of old graphics hardware.

and it's also cheaper.

Even with a Pentium4 (I tried a 9800GT on a XPS Gen 3, stock CPU, and it ran very well during pre-v21), it still might run good.

If you want high shaders though with a crapton of bricks, here is what you should get: A GTX 660 2gb, 8gb ram atleast 1 tb of hard drive,
a I5 3570k 3.4ghz. And that would do it for you as also would do it for you for alot of new steam games.

The modify button wasn't there.
