This game is not finished, and apparently won't ever be finished, but gosh dang, does it look good.







This game has one of the best atmospheres I've seen in a long time. I love the pixel art, the colours, and I even feel that the fact that there's no soundtrack contributes to the awesome wastelandness/lost civilisationness feel of the game world. The story is thin, yet so attractive. I want more.

That was neat. The constant fighting spiders and snakes got old fast though.

I can't really say much about the storyline when it hasn't developed much. All we know is that something happened to her grandmother.

was neat but i was kind of confused as to why i was walking through this cave and stuff, if i was looking for my grandma. also why the hell could you kill the bleeding man? also whats the other ending and the secret medal?

Apparently that's the way she'd be. Not many other places to look. I doubt you would have found her in the bushes if the game let you search them. If I was looking for someone in a forest and there was a cave, I'd look there.

The only progression in this game is moving towards the end and being more creeped out by god.

There really isn't much progression plotwise aside and no it has nothing to do with the little amount of text. It's literally just a girl looking for her grandma and it's going to end the world. There's more background than there is plot.
It kind of felt like C&C Renegade's campaign. Point and click at things that automatically hit you and fill up health every room, while learning nothing more than you learned at the start. Your grandmother is in some sort of trouble/NOD is bad.

it's not "just" being stupid. I was being stupid to illustrate how dumb you sound complaining about a feature in a game being bad when it's supposed to be bad. Complaining about sprite quality would be equally dumb.

there were two or three snakes, and certainly not every ten steps. more like every four or five locations.

You're missing the point. Again, the game is how it's supposed to be. The Organ Trail (2011) was not made like Far Cry 2. It was made like The Oregon Trail (1971).

Granted, Red isn't a sequel or a remake or anything like that, but it's the same point of making a game in the style of old stuffty games.

Don't you have any imagination? There's nothing outside town because there's been a nuclear war, or crazy people have taken over and ruined the world, or some random catastrophe happened and it's hard to survive these days, and so they build little villages with walls and try to keep evil out. or something.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I'm fine with a story not letting me know everything at the start. It makes me want to know more. What happened to her grandma? What happened to the world? What's in that city in the distance? It's not as fun to go if you know where to.

the combat is boring and uninteresting.

you're giving this game too much credit for an interesting atmosphere. other than that it falls short in all aspects of regular gameplay.

Well that's the problem. You pretty much know everything at the start. The world and the city is background stuff. The world is likely some kind of wasteland.

What I want to know is who was even going to attack the man and why you can't just give him the magical mushrooms you've been stuffing in your own mouth to prevent the fatal illness called death. Why did a man fly across the gap? Why did the man reporting that your grandmother was in danger fatally injured? Why wasn't he given any death-preventing mushrooms? The things are everywhere and all you really have to face off against is a couple of snakes that meet the wrath of a stick or a not so much better pipe. If the entire village is concerned about your grandmother, why do they let you, her granddaughter, run around in an extremely dangerous place with a stick when some of the people are armed with guns? Her grandmother is part of some kind of cult and she's going to be sacrificed and that's why god wants to stop her. That's my best guess and the most logical thing I can come up with.

she's been going where she knows or thinks her grandmother is the entire time. how about that one? I can make up a lot of explanations, and you can't. that's the thing with imagination. if you weren't drawn in by the atmosphere then that's unfortunate but you shouldn't call something bad because you don't like it.

we don't know what happens at the cliff because that's where it gets cut off. it's like you heard half a sentence and expected to understand what the person meant.

yes, why would you? why would you play a game that's supposed to be anything? would it be because you would like to? that might be the reason why you would. now if you don't want to play it, you don't have to. that's the great thing about games, don't you agree?

I'm sure your personal definition of "regular gameplay" applies to most genres of games. I'm sure Chessmaster 3000, Guitar Hero and Journey all have "regular gameplay" and are therefore perfectly valid (and therefore likable) games.

I guess he died before he could get proper mushroom. the man flies across the gap because the dude didn't finish the game. *sigh*
he was fatally injured because go find out, that's the game. dead people, cannibals and wolves outside; could have been anything. he didn't get to tell you because he died. don't ask me about dead men.
the dudes guarding the village need to be guarding the village. would you spare a couple men to go look for some old woman?

most of your questions sound like "why isn't this society the same as ours, nor explained in detail as if I'm some sort of viewer?"
