firearm (not including airsoft/paintball, though at altered PSIs they can be just as deadly)
In most cases, that
is what it's like today. And it's fine as is. This Conn. shooting? Yeah, tragic. Does it mean that guns are horrible and that we need to remove them from every home and never ever ever
EVER let ANYONE aside from a grunt out in the field touch a gun?
no.Bad people exist. People who would hurt, rape, murder, rob or just ruin your life given the chance. Though I cannot conceal carry, once I move out of my parents house and am on my own, I plan to get a CC license and keep a .45 pistol on me at all times (given that it's legal in said location). Referring back to an old joke I heard and skipping straight to the punch line; if you call the police for a POSSIBLE robbery, you aren't guaranteed jack diddly squat. If you call the police and let them know you have said thief in a half nelson with a .45 pistol to his skull, your response time varies greatly.
I've mentioned this once before, but as a member of the
HDAA, every time they send out a weekly e-mail discussing how to best protect your home/family/self, the #1 thing they always recommend?
Your own fast response. If your cooking and they bust in through the front door; throw a knife and get to them while they're distracted. Too far away? Grab the closest weapon (this is all assuming you don't carry a firearm on you) you can find and make a dash for it (though they always write these e-mails in the form of the typical family man's point of view, so they always say defend your family and stand your ground if they are there and can't escape.)
Overall, what happened in Connecticut is tragic, but it isn't the government's fault. If a man ODs, it isn't the pharmacy's fault unless they didn't tell him NOT to overuse the drug. Same thing applies here. The weapon belonged to the mother of the shooter, and he took it from her possession. He wasn't well. You know what happens when sick people come to power?
people die. You know what happens when sick people come to power in a group?
they form a group and ruin everyone's day.
