Author Topic: Sony has achieved a rip-off streak already worth of 3 points!  (Read 8015 times)

Bah. It should be an option with every game >:(

Holy crap, the stupidity of people in this post. Granted, I skimmed through most of it, but a lot of what I saw was just misinformed opinion.

Referring to the OP: That is nothing new. Since the PS Vita was announced, they've been flaunting the fact that it has PS3 compatibility. In fact, this is a feature on a few PSP games with Sony's addition of Remote Play. And as we all know, the PSP was out long before the Wii U was even announced. However, Sony still copied (at least partially) the idea from an earlier Nintendo product. Anyone remember this treasure? If anything, Nintendo just tried to remake a somewhat failed concept.

Concerning the "Console War": It doesn't exist. Each system has aimed for specific audiences, with strengths in those areas, but have influence in the remaining areas. If I remember correctly, Nintendo was king of all things gaming until the N64/PS1 days. No real fanboy wars have really happened as both systems had their share of good games. PS1 had Twisted Metal, FFVII, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro (Along with many others) while the N64 had Mario 64, MarioKart, Mario Party, and GoldenEye (Along with many others). If you were to judge between the two, I'd have to say Nintendo was "in the lead" as seen by the resounding amount of people that still play the system and the fact that they had a total monopoly on the handheld market. The real fanboy-ism started emerging around the GC/PS2/Xbox days. The PS2 had the largest selection of games to choose from, but was most popular for its fighting and horror games, including Street Fighter, Soul Caliber, Dead or Alive, Resident Evil, Silent Hill and Fatal Frame. It also took over Nintendo's role of being the JRPG leader. The Gamecube dominated local multiplayer with games like Super Smash Bros Melee, Mario Kart, and Custom Robo. It also had a pretty solid grip on action platformer games like Wind Waker, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, and Mario Sunshine. Xbox was king of all things FPS, fueled by it's online multiplayer support known as Xbox Live. From this point, each company tried to refine what it was good at, as well as taking stabs at other markets. This is where the fanboy arguments started getting heated. The PS3 wanted to be the prettiest, hoping its graphics would attract players. Unfortunately, its price tag drove many away. It's still king of JRPGs, but aside from the Blu-Ray player winning the format war, it hasn't had much going for it. Sony's success, however, was in its handheld system, the PSP. Though sales were ok in the US, Japan was going crazy for it, largely due to the Monster Hunter series. It was so successful that it outsold nearly ever other console for a week in March. Nintendo stole the show with its low cost and unique motion controls. The controls were so popular that both Sony and Microsoft released their own versions, both of which pretty much failed. However, Nintendo decided to aim towards a more casual audience with the Wii, so game selection was very shallow if you were looking for quality games. Interest in the system died pretty quickly when the casual audience moved on to mobile gaming on iOS/Androids, which also started to overtake Nintendo in the war for handheld gaming in the US. Combine this US split with the PSP's popularity in Japan and it's easy to see that Nintendo is not on the throne of handhelds like it used to be. Xbox remained king of FPS with popular titles such as Halo, CoD, and Battlefield, but also managed to steal the fighting games from Sony, because of the online support. However, the Red Ring of Death generated many complaints and even turned away a lot of fans. With the Wii U, Nintendo seems like it's trying to fix its game selection problem that plagued the Wii, with many of the launch games being highly rated. The PS Vita is trying to be the next step in handheld gaming, but for the same reason Nintendo is falling to iOS/Android, the PS Vita hasn't really taken off. Unless a Monster Hunter game comes out for the system, it might have an untimely death.

TL;DR: Each system has had it's strengths and weaknesses. Fighting over them is stupid.

the console war is clandestine like the roblox vs blockland war
the only participants are fanboys caught in the overwhelming hype of their game and they wish everyone else would enjoy it the same as they have

For every reply to this post, I lose faith in humanity. I'm expecting another video game crash.
