Yes. I would contribute 20$ to an engine switch.

Author Topic: Engine Switch Thread  (Read 5565 times)

Well someone who actually understands what they're talking about would never make such a ridiculous thread so I think what I said was accurate.

You think other engines don't have to sacrifice functionality for performance? That's the nature of computing power, you can't just have both. A crazy amount of work has gone into making sure that Blockland can handle 256,000 bricks in view at one time. Do you think the Crysis engine could cope with that?

Like I said, you just have no understanding of what you're talking about. Blockland isn't a vehicle simulator, it's for building with bricks - and it does that incredibly well at the moment. I didn't need reassured of that.
Being accurate and being a jerk should not go hand in hand. If you were 100% sure that this wouldn't happen, you wouldn't even bother responding. Yes, I realize that this probably wouldn't happen.

I realize that there would be a lot of work involved in this. However, discussing an engine change should not be considered ridiculous. A lot to ask, yes. But not ridiculous.

Also, as I said before, it wouldn't need to be on CryEngine.

I want to be Beta tester! Where can I sign up? I can't wait join Jeep's project!
Hey Jeep, you will have my full support for this and I will be full one hundred percent behind you!

You realize that Far Cry 3 and Crysis will run like stuff on that computer, right? It will run far worse than Torque ever will.
Yeah, but sour-

Nevermind, 10k objects on source would kill me.

My current inner child life long autistic goal is to be able to run Blockland with max settings and create videos with them.

My imagination goes through the roof, but my computer specs on the other hand, they dont.

Now that I think about it. Torque maybe the best engine for Blockland.

So you think switching to an engine like Cryengine which is far more graphically intensive is going to be beneficial to those people? Those people use stuffty old computers and the world has moved on. I don't get what point you're even trying to make there.
I have no idea what I was thinking either. I somehow took advantage of OP thinking it ran smoother.

There's no way that I could make this. I'm no game developer.

Get some team! Someone know how model, script, texture.

Nor would I be legally able to.

Cubelands get some brains

No, it is ridiculous. When two indie developers spend like 5 years on an engine they're not going to just throw those 5 years of work away for reasons I can hardly even fathom from your post. The work they've done is in no way applicable to other engines because (if you understood engines) the situation is entirely different.

Blockland is a building game and it does building well - there is no reason to re-do 5 years of work just so you can have vehicles with dynamic damage. You're mental.

Also being a jerk and knowing what you're talking about aren't mutually exclusive and I routinely do both.

Lmao, this guy.

An engine switch is unnecessary. Badspot and Kompressor are working to make the current engine better. It takes a long loving time because they are just two people. The things that we NEED for a lego building game on the internet are already here. The things that we want are on the way. For instance, the next logical step is either:

Reduced lag for all machines
Better vehicle-brick collision handling.

My official adult life long goal-

Become a game designer
Remake blockland efficiently
all money goes to badspot
The fact that this will actually happen

there is no reason to re-do 5 years of work just so you can have vehicles with dynamic damage. You're mental.

1. Where did I say that I wanted vehicles with dynamic damage, so we should switch engines? Are you basing that on my name?
2. #1 contradicts what I bolded, and makes me think that you're delusional.

People are allowed to talk about changing engines. So quit defending nothing and let everyone discuss it.

Very possible if we did this. I'm not saying that this would be easy, but it would without a doubt be a good idea and practical.

Dynamic Physics:

Torque 3D would be our best bet; I cannot, in a million years imagine Blockland on the CryEngine, its actually laughable to think about.
this so much

Image Brick would look like this.

Re-read that. It says nothing about me saying that we should switch for dynamic damage. In fact, I was responding to a quote the first line. The second line with the image was not relevant to the first.
