apparently 970 superclocked versions are running at 350 bucks.
Whhhaaaa?

holy stuff :O

If it weren't for the facts that I a) bought a 760 less than half a year ago and b) can in no way afford a $300+ graphics card I'd totally get a 970. 780 performance for 770 pricing at 760 power consumption with (hopefully) 750ti overclockability is just amazing.

Whhhaaaa?
Why is this surprising to you guys? The MSRP for the 970 was only $330 in the first place

Would a 770 to a 970 make a difference?
I'm looking to get a GPU and CPU good enough to run the new GTA at max settings and I'm just preparing

Speaking of which what's a good $300 CPU to get

stuff, my monitor and keyboard have ETAs now and they're both coming on Tuesday while everything else arrives today, I have an old monitor I can use until then but the only other keyboard I have uses an outdated connector so I guess I'll be waiting

In the meantime I have a probably obvious question about internet, if I'm not within reasonable range of my router I assume I need to purchase some form of wireless card or adapter, right? I'm so used to my laptop having a built in wireless card that I'm not sure what I need

You need an ethernet cable, wireless cards are such a waste on desktops unless you literally cannot route a cable through your house.

my wireless card can handle 8 times more bandwidth than ethernet cable cat5e

How the hell does that even work.

cuz 802.11AC is awesome. and even cat6 cant keep up.

but you have to have a good card AND a good router.

I use a $15 PCI wireless adapter on my desktop, and the latency gain is negligible. The router is in another room, but neither me nor anyone else wants to go through the trouble of actually sending a cable across somewhere.

The $15 card will do just fine for any speeds under 50Mb/s (I've had 1-3Mb/s for the past 7 years). Slightly higher range cards will handle 100Mb/s easy. Bisjac's card can handle multiple Gb/s, the overkill is real.

Can your router transmit that much data? How far is your computer from your router? What materials are in the way and how much of them? Do you have a microwave, phone or other wireless device within range of the wireless signal?

The number of factors that affect how fast and how stable a wireless connection is are so numerous that it's an overwhelmingly bad choice when compared to an ethernet cable. I wouldn't even consider using wireless unless I had no other choice.

How fast is your internet? Can you download games through Steam and Origin at 13Mbytes/s stable for over an hour? I couldn't care less about latency in this day and age, it's about data throughput and reliability

I live upstairs on the other side of the house, which is where the router is at so routing an ethernet cable is not an option. I have a wireless thing that is actually better than my current router, so thats something i need to get. Anyone know of a great router, maybe in the $100-$150 range?

you gotta have an ac router that does triple stream.
most ac routers are fake and only have 1.

or some devices like the samsung phones claim to be ac, but only offer 1 stream.
still better than N, but not the full ac lol

basically, ac devices all around need to be triple stream on each end to get the full speed

i can get my speeds further then 100m, the max recommended length for any ethernet cable type.
but i also dont have lead paint or anything in the house XD
