just finished updating (it's 6:34 AM here)

there is a really big performance improvement

Hello computer geeks. I am looking to upgrade my modest rig, and I'm a little torn here. My CPU runs really hot at idle - 80oC - and I want to get a better video card, but cost is a concern for both of those.
What should I do to get better graphical performance and keep things cool? I could buy and put in new parts, but I don't know a lick about assembling computers and have no tools save for a few screwdrivers.

do you use a stock cooler? if so, then get a new air cooler, if you can find one that supports your motherboard/socket type. you can use the leftover funds to get a new graphics card.

what's your budget?

I'm not 100% sure of my budget, but it definitely has to be under $150.

and what kind of performance are you looking for/what games do you generally play?

to be clear my $200 figure is pretty authoritative

I don't play too high demand stuff, mostly because I know where my computer's limits are. I want to be able to run the new update for Space Engineers at at least 15 fps, rather than the current 3 I get. I usually play stuff like Kerbal Space Program and TF2, though.

you should focus on processor if you play kerbal space program and space engineers

I want a good general improvement for my PC, rather than one that is more custom tailored. Should I also need to buy allen wrenches for some parts?

nah, you shouldn't. graphics cards just lock into slots, no tools needed

A philips screwdriver and a way to keep static off yourself is all you need usually

and some thermal paste if you get a new cooler

How do I avoid static buildup in my body? I also haven't *ever* cleaned the inside of the computer, so what should I use for that?

compressed air in short bursts. ground yourself on your PSU.
