You make it sound like AMD made the stufftiest GPU ever
it's a decent but overhyped card. the R9 380X has been ~$220 for a while and performed just under an R9 390. this seems like a very minor upgrade.

not to mention the whole PCI-E power issue that has been reported by multiple sites can probably cause some instability on lower-end motherboards. if you crossfire two, well, I wouldn't be surprised if you blow your VRM's down the line

i like how AMD was touting how they improved power efficiency and then it turns out the RX 480 can barely match previous-gen Nvidia cards built on 28nm. this thing alone can consume more power than a GTX 1070. the stock cooler is a complete overheating fest and reportedly noisy. not only that, it violates PCI-E power spec. GG
Holy stuff there's so much wrong with this.

First off, the RX 480 has 5TFLOPS. The closest one to that in the Nvidia lineup is the GTX 980, which costs almost three times as much and has worse specs for performance in every category. There's a serious forgetin' difference there.

Second, no it loving doesn't use more power than a 1070.

Third, it has around 30% less power usage, a higher clock speed, significantly better performance, better in basically every category for even less money. Way better performance/$ than the 1070. 1060 is yet to be seen.

Fourth, the vast majority of cards are not experiencing these issues, they are the exception, not the rule. The card has been 100% passed certification by an unbiased third party and they're working on getting the issues sorted out so there will be NONE of this happening when it finally ships.

Are you seriously using TFLOPS as a measurement of game performance???! LOL! You know that the R9 390X has 5.9TFLOPS while the GTX 980 Ti, as you posted, has 5.6TFLOPS? Guess which one outperforms the other by nearly 30%? TFLOPS is pretty much a meaningless number nowadays when you are comparing gaming performance, especially since Maxwell.

What was that?

Compared to what?

Just like Volkswagen totally passed their emission tests!

Just so you know, the card is already being shipped. This issue has been reported by multiple sites. TPU, tom's and pcper have all reported power consumption above the spec.

Just like Volkswagen totally passed their emission tests!
the forget does Volkswagen have to do with this

I was kind of joking but just because a company passed inspection doesn't mean the final product is guaranteed to be void of any issues

he said the 980
there's a difference between the TI and non-TI, one of them has two letters after it, the other doesn't.
AMD is also reviewing why the cards are drawing so much with support of the reviewers. It's a bit too early to start an entire war about it, the product isn't even close to being fixed as they have to understand the power issue first.

So, let's wait, eh? Stop flaming on each other right now, wait for the fix for the power bug.
Then start annoying the forget out of each other >:)

You're right, I was wrong. It's 30% faster in some games for nearly 3x the cost. My bad.

You made a strawman, plain and simple. Volkswagen purposely falsified the tests in order to look like they passed. Are you trying to pull off some ridiculous conspiracy theory that they purposely falsified the test to pass it? no? then just drop the stuffty comparison lol.

Two of your graphics show the total rig power usage, which while not entirely inaccurate is deceptive at best. You then use multiple graphics from the same source. Funny thing is, I can't find power consumption comparisons from any other source at the moment. I'll concede that point.

Compared to what?
R9 380X.

Is Ipquarx seriously measuring cards against one-another purely by numbers that are mostly irrelevant?

Compare it to an R9 390 or a GTX 970, both of which start around ~$260-$270 and both perform on par. Compare it to the R9 380X (which costs cheaper by like ~$20). I really don't know why the hell you are comparing it to the GTX 980, which is in a different performance bracket (high-end always has bad price/performance. not to mention, the GTX 980 have costed ~$400-350 for like a few months now, so less than twice, not nearly three times). I just said that TFLOPS is a horrifically silly number to compare, and that using it is extremely misleading.

comparing power consumption of different cards under full load while leaving the rest of the system identical is not misleading or deceptive in any way

a higher clock speed
relevant how, exactly? all i care about is end performance

significantly better performance
about ~35% better, which is fair enough i guess. you have to remember that the cheapest R9 380X is ~15% cheaper though. this is some napkin math which I admit might be inaccurate but it would seem like the RX 480 is about ~15-20% better price/performance. which is a decent jump but nothing revolutionary.

regardless the RX 480 has high power consumption in comparison to Pascal and it barely matches Maxwell, multiple reviewer models exceed PCI-E spec, it represents a fairly mild price/performance increase over last gen. the cheapest R9 390 is like $260. you effectively saved $20 for the same performance and lower power consumption.

and then AMD posted on their twitter on how it was going to be similar to the 4870, which outperformed Nvidia's second highest-end card at the time for $100 cheaper. while it turns out it matches Nvidia's second (technically third but w/e) highest-end card from last generation while being like a whopping $30 cheaper

It's not a bad card, just overhyped and has some issues with its stock configuration.

Anybody know when the GTX 1070's will become available again? I literally just got enough to buy one and almost everyone is sold out or is above my pricepoint.

you gotta have it in your cart ready to check out as soon as it restocks lol. they'll go quick im sure

almost everyone
So what's the issue then?

Newegg has had MSI and Gigabyte 1070s in stock since Tuesday. The only thing stopping someone from getting one now is if you want a specific brand

can't even put it in your cart until it's in stock. Best bet is to stay on whatever card you want's page and refresh it every here and there to see if it comes back in stock.

also having r/nvidia open in another tab under the "New" category helps as people post there when a card is in stock for whatever manufacturer.

Finally got a 980TI which is great but the exact same day i aquired it my CPU had died which had forced me to get something to fill the gap while i save up for a better CPU. So now i have a 980TI and a Pentium G3258. The Bottleneck is realllll.
